Abstract

Provided are devices, compositions, and methods for surface disinfection and decontamination; the devices generally adapted to contain a single or multi-component indicator composition, and optionally a disinfectant composition, and to dispense the indicator composition and optional disinfectant composition to a disinfectant solution, a surface, or a disinfectant article upon actuation of the device; also provided is an article of manufacture in the form of a removable cartridge adapted to fit a device described here, which may be pre-filled with a single or multi-component indicator composition as described here, and/or with a disinfectant composition, and one or more optional additives.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a device for applying a composition to at least one wipe dispensed through the device, where the wipe is drawn into an interior volume from a canister holding a plurality of wipes. The housing defines a dispensing aperture through an exterior wall, includes a lower end region with an opening and one or more connecting features, and a dispensing mechanism with a plurality of rollers captures and directs the wipe through the interior volume toward the dispensing aperture.

An application mechanism is positioned within the interior volume relative to the dispensing aperture to apply the composition to the wipe. A processor is in operative communication with a sensor and an input, and the sensor communicates information related to the at least one wipe directed toward the dispensing aperture. The device further includes a removable cartridge configured to be coupled to the housing.

The removable cartridge comprises a cartridge housing that defines a reservoir and a penetrable barrier extending through a portion of the housing. The reservoir defines a first chamber, a second chamber, and a third chamber, each sized to contain a first composition, a second composition, and a third composition, respectively. The multi-chamber reservoir provides multiple compositions for application to the dispensed wipes.

Claims Coverage

Independent claim coverage centers on a wipe-applying device with roller-based routing, a sensor/processor system, and a removable multi-chamber cartridge. The independent claim includes 4 inventive features.

Roller-based wipe routing through a dispensing aperture

A housing defining a dispensing aperture and an interior volume, with a lower end region opening that draws wipe(s) from a canister into the interior volume, and a dispensing mechanism with a plurality of rollers configured to capture and direct the wipe through the interior volume toward the dispensing aperture.

Composition application to the wipe at the aperture

An application mechanism positioned within the interior volume relative to the dispensing aperture for applying a composition to the wipe dispensed through the device.

Sensor and processor receiving wipe-related information

A processor in operative communication with a sensor and an input, where the sensor communicates to the processor information related to the at least one wipe directed toward the dispensing aperture.

Removable multi-chamber cartridge for multiple compositions

A removable cartridge coupled to the housing, including a cartridge housing defining a reservoir and a penetrable barrier, where the reservoir comprises a first chamber sized to contain a first composition, a second chamber sized to contain a second composition, and a third chamber sized to contain a third composition.

The claim coverage centers on a wipe-dispenser device that routes wipes through a housing and dispensing aperture using rollers, applies a composition via an internal application mechanism, and uses a processor/sensor architecture for wipe-related information, together with a removable cartridge having a multi-chamber reservoir containing first, second, and third compositions.
