Abstract

A packaging system utilizing a thin, planar sheet of material that is folded to have a base and at least three sidewalls. At least one mounting feature is integrated into at least one sidewall to secure at least one medical device component, wherein the at least one medical device component is mountable onto the at least one sidewall.

Core Innovation

A packaging system is formed from a thin, planar sheet of material configured to fold into a base and at least three sidewalls to form an enclosed volume holding separate medical device components. A mounting feature defined on a sidewall secures at least a first medical device component to that sidewall. The package unfolds from the final packaging configuration into a display layout while the first medical device component remains secured by the mounting feature.

The package mounts and organizes components, including a pump, tubing, and accessories, as the sheet changes between packaging and display configurations. At least one component is mounted onto a sidewall without a mounting feature that is at least partially integrated with or connected to the base. The configuration provides component presentation in an accessible display layout while avoiding tray draft-angle constraints.

Claims Coverage

The provided claim identifies one independent claim, claim 1, comprising four inventive features.

Foldable planar sheet with a base and sidewalls

A thin, planar sheet of material folds to form a base, a first sidewall, and at least two other sidewalls with folding lines between the base and the sidewalls, forming an enclosed volume that holds at least first and second separate medical device components.

Sidewall mounting feature securing a medical device component

At least one mounting feature is defined on at least the first sidewall and secures at least the first medical device component onto that sidewall.

Component mounted without a base-integrated mounting feature

At least one of the first and second components is mounted onto a sidewall without being secured by a mounting feature at least partially integrated with or connected to the base when the sheet is folded.

Unfolding into a display layout while retaining a component

The packaging system deploys in an unfolding direction from the final packaging configuration into a display layout, wherein the first medical device component remains secured by the mounting feature.

Claim 1 covers a foldable sheet forming an enclosed package for separate medical device components, sidewall mounting of a component without base-integrated features, and unfolding into a display layout while retaining the component.

Stated Advantages

Reduced package footprint.

Organized no-touch access to the medical-device components.

Avoidance of tray draft-angle constraints.

Documented Applications

Packaging separate medical device components, including components associated with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), wound cleaning, or chronic wound treatment, such as a sterile NPWT wound-care kit with a CSR wrap and sterile barrier bag.

Packaging sterile components for manipulating objects, including forceps or tweezers.
