Abstract

Example systems, methods, and apparatus, including cognitive platforms, are provided for applying signal detection metrics in computer-implemented adaptive response-deadline procedures to data collected based at least in part on user interaction(s) with computerized tasks and/or interferences. The apparatus can include a response classifier for generating a quantifier of the cognitive abilities of an individual. The apparatus also can be configured to adapt the tasks and/or interferences to enhance the individual's cognitive abilities.

Core Innovation

The invention generates a quantifier of cognitive skills in an individual using a response classifier. It presents a task with interference at a user interface, where one or more of the task and the interference are time-varying and having a response deadline that imposes a limited time period for receiving at least one type of response. The processing unit analyzes the first and second responses to compute at least one response profile representative of performance of the individual. The response classifier is executed based at least in part on the computed values of the decision boundary metric to generate a classifier output indicative of the cognitive response capabilities of the individual.

The apparatus applies at least one adaptive procedure to modify the task and/or the interference at the user interface so that analysis indicates a modification of the at least one response profile. The adaptive procedure is configured to modify a time-varying characteristic of the task and/or the interference, including modifying the response deadline to modify a performance characteristic toward an impulsive response profile or a conservative response profile. By modifying time-varying characteristics and response deadlines, measurements at different response deadlines provide different data as to a first decision boundary or a second decision boundary of the decision boundary metric, thereby indicating modification of cognitive response capabilities.
