Abstract
An extracorporeal blood filtering machine can include a blood circuit, an effluent circuit, and a source fluid circuit and can be controlled by a controller. The extracorporeal blood filtering machine can also include access ports for connecting the source fluid circuit to the blood circuit, as well as blood sensors to detect possible issues with the extracorporeal blood filtering machine. The extracorporeal blood filtering machine can include density sensors and flow sensors that enable it to be more accurate and to operate while being transported. The extracorporeal blood filtering machine can further include a user interface and can display fluid inflow/outflow information. A medical fluid container can automatically empty after being filled. An apparatus for supporting a medical fluid container can include a hanger and an attachment member with the apparatus able to adjust to ensure the medical fluid container remains properly oriented directly under a medical fluid container scale.
Core Innovation
The disclosed extracorporeal blood filtering system includes an extracorporeal blood filtering machine with a blood circuit, an effluent circuit, and a controller. The blood circuit includes a blood line with a blood inlet configured to receive blood from a patient and a blood outlet configured to return the blood to the patient, a filter fluidly connected between the inlet and the outlet, and a blood pump configured to pump the blood through the filter to remove waste.
A central aspect of the control architecture is mode-dependent pump operation and control behavior across stationary mode and transport mode. The blood pump is active in both stationary mode and transport mode, while the effluent pump and the source fluid pump are in respective stationary states in stationary mode and transport states in transport mode.
The disclosure also emphasizes safety monitoring and measurement-based management features. It includes sensor-based safety and monitoring such as hematocrit sensing, pressure sensing, blood-leak detection with alarms and pump control, bubble detection with clamp control, and hemolysis monitoring using hemolysis sensors, including reference/sensor mismatch and threshold/slope-based alerts.
Fluid accuracy is supported by using effluent/source density sensors to compute effluent/source volumes from measured weights, and it further includes medical-fluid container and scale-support hardware including automatic emptying of an effluent container using siphon/drain valves and a hanger/bracket that self-aligns the container vertically with a scale by permitting horizontal-axis pivoting while preventing vertical-axis rotation.
Claims Coverage
The independent claims cover an extracorporeal blood filtering system and a corresponding method that provide stationary-mode and transport-mode operation, with mode-dependent activation of the effluent pump and source fluid pump relative to the continuously active blood pump. Across the independent claims, the coverage focuses on the extracorporeal blood filtering machine architecture (blood circuit, effluent circuit) and adding a source fluid circuit for the method, plus explicit mode switching with specified pump stationary/transport states.
Mode-dependent pump activation across stationary and transport modes
A controller operates the extracorporeal blood filtering machine in a stationary mode of operation and in a transport mode of operation, where the blood pump is active in both the stationary mode of operation and the transport mode of operation, and the effluent pump is in an effluent pump stationary state in the stationary mode of operation and in an effluent pump transport state in the transport mode of operation.
Stationary-to-transport mode switching with stationary and transport pump states for effluent and source fluid
Switching the extracorporeal blood filtering machine from a stationary mode of operation to a transport mode of operation, wherein the blood pump is active in both the stationary mode of operation and the transport mode of operation, and the effluent pump and the source fluid pump are each in a stationary state in the stationary mode of operation and in a transport state in the transport mode of operation.
Extracorporeal blood filtering machine with blood circuit and effluent circuit controlled by a controller
An extracorporeal blood filtering machine comprising a blood circuit with a blood line, a filter, and a blood pump, and an effluent circuit with an effluent line and an effluent pump into an effluent receptacle, wherein a controller in communication with the machine operates in stationary mode of operation and in transport mode of operation.
Method including source fluid circuit for delivering source fluid into the blood circuit
Providing an extracorporeal blood filtering machine comprising a source fluid circuit including a source fluid line fluidly connected to a source fluid reservoir and to the blood circuit, and a source fluid pump configured to pump source fluid from the source fluid reservoir through the source fluid line into the blood circuit.
Overall, the independent-claim coverage centers on an extracorporeal blood filtering machine architecture with blood and effluent circuits and, for the method, a source fluid circuit, together with controller-driven stationary-mode versus transport-mode operation in which the blood pump remains active while the effluent pump and source fluid pump move between stationary and transport states.
