Abstract

The present invention relates generally to therapeutic compositions comprising chitosan-derived compositions used in connection with methods for treating neoplasms, such as for instance, malignant lung, thyroid and kidney neoplasms, and other types of malignant neoplasms, and other medical disorders.

Core Innovation

The invention provides therapeutic methods for treating a cancer in a patient by administering by injection a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a glycated chitosan. The glycated chitosan is defined by a molecular weight of about 100,000 to about 300,000 Daltons, a degree of deacetylation of about 75% to about 99%, and a degree of glycation of free amino groups of about 0.1% to about 30%.

The invention also provides a method of generating an in situ autologous vaccine by ablating a neoplasm in a host, thereby releasing fragmented neoplastic tissue and cellular molecules, and introducing by injection a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a glycated chitosan into the neoplasm. In this embodiment, the glycated chitosan is characterized by a molecular weight of about 250,000 Daltons, a degree of deacetylation of about 80%, and specific degrees of glycation of free amino groups of about 2%, about 7%, or about 12.5%.

Further, the invention provides a method of enhancing immune system response to an antigen in a patient in need thereof by administering a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a glycated chitosan. The antigen can be a tumor antigen or an infectious agent antigen, and the tumor being treated can be a solid tumor cancer.

Claims Coverage

The provided claim set includes three independent claims. Across these claims, the coverage is organized around three quantitative structure parameters for glycated chitosan, with additional claim-specific contexts for treating cancer, generating an in situ autologous vaccine, and enhancing immune response to an antigen.

Injectable cancer treatment with glycated chitosan defined by molecular weight, deacetylation, and glycation

Administering by injection a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a glycated chitosan to the patient, wherein the glycated chitosan has a molecular weight of about 100,000 to about 300,000 Daltons, a degree of deacetylation of about 75% to about 99%, and a degree of glycation of free amino groups of about 0.1% to about 30%.

In situ autologous vaccine generation by neoplasm ablation and intratumoral glycated chitosan injection

Ablating a neoplasm in a host, thereby releasing fragmented neoplastic tissue and cellular molecules; and introducing by injection a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a glycated chitosan into the neoplasm, wherein the glycated chitosan has a molecular weight of about 250,000 Daltons, a degree of deacetylation of about 80%, and a degree of glycation of free amino groups of about 2%, about 7%, or about 12.5%.

Immune response enhancement to an antigen using specific glycated chitosan composition

Administering a pharmaceutical formulation comprising a glycated chitosan to a patient, wherein the glycated chitosan has a molecular weight of about 250,000 Daltons, a degree of deacetylation of about 80%, and a degree of glycation of free amino groups of about 2%, about 7%, or about 12.5%.

Overall, the claim coverage centers on injection-based use of glycated chitosan defined by molecular weight, degree of deacetylation, and degree of glycation of free amino groups. The independent claims further anchor these compositions to treating cancer, generating an in situ autologous vaccine through neoplasm ablation and intratumoral injection, and enhancing immune system response to an antigen.
