Abstract

Systems and methods for facilitating assessment and convenient display of graphical output indicative of lesion formation and outputting data indicative of lesion formation to a 3D mapping system to display on a 3D model are disclosed herein.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a system for generating output to facilitate ablation of cardiac tissue during an ablation procedure. The system includes an ablation catheter having a composite-tip electrode assembly and at least one additional electrode, and it uses voltage detection to support a clinician-facing indication. The output is produced via a graphical user interface system that displays a visual image of a distal tip of the ablation catheter and a visual image of a section of cardiac tissue below the distal tip image. The graphical output further includes a tissue viability indicator window for continuously indicating contact and viability based on voltage measurements.

The ablation catheter and voltage detection are configured to obtain a first voltage measurement between a distal electrode member and a second electrode member of the composite-tip electrode assembly. The system also obtains a second voltage measurement between the second electrode member and the at least one additional electrode positioned proximal to the second electrode member. The tissue viability indicator window includes a first section and a second section, and each section is independently controllable to indicate the intensity of the first voltage measurement and the intensity of the second voltage measurement.

The graphical output is generated in a clinician-facing manner with controllable visual behavior tied to the voltage-based viability indication. In example refinements, the tissue viability indicator window can display no color when the composite-tip electrode assembly is not contacting cardiac tissue and when the cardiac tissue is not viable based on the first and second voltage measurements, and can flash on and off with color when ablative energy continues to be delivered longer than a predetermined threshold after the window changes from the no-color display. The graphical output can also be displayed on a 3D model generated by a 3D tissue mapping system.

Claims Coverage

The independent claim coverage centers on a clinician-facing graphical output during cardiac ablation using voltage measurements from a composite-tip electrode assembly and an additional proximal electrode. The cited dependent features further specify display parameterization and conditional display behavior.

Cardiac ablation visualization system using voltage-based tissue viability window

An ablation catheter comprising a composite-tip electrode assembly and at least one additional electrode, a voltage detection system obtaining a first voltage measurement between a first and second electrode member of the composite-tip assembly and a second voltage measurement between the second electrode member and the additional electrode, and a graphical user interface system generating a graphical output including a visual image of a distal tip, a visual image of a section of cardiac tissue below the distal tip, and a tissue viability indicator window configured to continuously indicate whether the composite-tip electrode assembly is in contact with the cardiac tissue and whether the cardiac tissue is viable based on the first and second voltage measurements, wherein the tissue viability indicator window includes a first section and a second section independently controllable to indicate an intensity of the first and second voltage measurements.

Parameterized tissue viability indicator window display attributes

The tissue viability indicator window is configured such that a display parameter is chosen from size, shape, color, intensity, shade, brightness, contrast, and texture.

Conditional no-color display for non-contact and non-viable tissue

The tissue viability indicator window is configured to not display color when the composite-tip electrode assembly is not contacting cardiac tissue and when the cardiac tissue is not viable based on the first and second voltage measurements.

3D mapping model display of the graphical output

The graphical output can be displayed on a 3D model generated by a 3D tissue mapping system.

The core coverage is a clinician-facing graphical output that continuously indicates contact and tissue viability using first and second voltage measurements derived from a composite-tip electrode assembly and a proximal additional electrode. Additional features refine display attributes, suppress color under non-contact or non-viable conditions, and permit display on a 3D tissue mapping model.

Stated Advantages

Continuously indicates to a clinician whether the composite-tip electrode assembly is in contact with the cardiac tissue and whether the cardiac tissue is viable during an ablation procedure.

Facilitates ablation of cardiac tissue during an ablation procedure by generating output to a clinician based on whether the composite-tip electrode assembly is in contact with the cardiac tissue and whether the cardiac tissue is viable.

Provides clinician-facing graphical output including a visual image of a distal tip and a visual image of a section of cardiac tissue together with a tissue viability indicator window.

Allows independent control of display sections to indicate the intensity of the first and second voltage measurements.

Documented Applications

Facilitating ablation of cardiac tissue during an ablation procedure by generating clinician-facing output during the procedure.

Ablation of cardiac tissue during an ablation procedure using an ablation catheter and clinician-facing graphical output to indicate contact and tissue viability.
