Abstract
Disclosed embodiments provide a biopsy tool and methodologies for obtain biopsies and/or a tool and methodology that may be used to add material to a subject's tissue.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to a capsule containing at least one aperture for removing or adding tissue from or to a subject's body part. The capsule includes at least one magnetizable section containing a magnetizable material, and a tube is provided for manipulating the capsule therein, with the tube including at least one aperture. Magnetic field generating means generate and apply one or more magnetic fields to the subject's body part, with at least a portion of the magnetic field generating means external to the subject's body part.
The invention performs manipulation of the capsule within the tube using the magnetizable material influenced by the one or more magnetic fields. The manipulation enables use of the capsule aperture for removing tissue from the subject's body part or for adding tissue or material to the subject's body part. The external magnetic field generating means apply the fields to influence the magnetizable material, thereby enabling capsule control inside the body part while the system remains at least in part external.
Magnetic imaging of the subject's body part is included as guidance for insertion or movement of the capsule and/or the tube under imaging guidance from the magnetic imaging. The one or more magnetic fields have transition times that avoid unwanted side effects in the subject's body part.
Claims Coverage
The document includes two independent claims. Across these independent claims, the inventive content centers on a magnetizable capsule with an aperture inside a tube, and magnetically manipulating the capsule by external magnetic fields generated by a system at least in part external to the subject's body part, including tissue removal or addition functionality and optional magnetic-imaging guidance and magnetic-field transition-time limitations.
Magnetizable aperture capsule in external-field tube apparatus
A capsule containing at least one aperture for removing or adding tissue from or to a subject's body part, the capsule having at least one magnetizable section containing a magnetizable material; a tube for manipulating the capsule therein and also including at least one aperture; and magnetic field generating means for generating and applying one or more magnetic fields to the subject's body part, wherein the manipulation of the capsule within the tube is performed using the magnetizable material influenced by the one or more magnetic fields, and wherein at least one portion of the magnetic field generating means is external to the subject's body part.
External magnetic-field capsule manipulation method for tissue removal/addition
A method for removing tissue from a body part or adding material to a subject's body part, comprising introducing a tube into the subject's body part, wherein the tube includes a capsule containing at least one aperture for removing or adding tissue from or to a subject's body part and the capsule has at least one magnetizable section containing a magnetizable material, and magnetically manipulating the capsule located within the tube within the subject's body part by generating and applying one or more magnetic fields to the magnetizable material in the subject's body part, wherein the one or more magnetic fields are generated outside and applied to the subject's body part by a system that is at least in part external to the subject.
Both independent claims cover magnetizable material in a capsule having at least one aperture within a tube, where capsule manipulation inside the tube is achieved by one or more magnetic fields generated and applied by magnetic field generating means that are at least partially external to the subject. The method claim recites introducing the tube into the subject and magnetically manipulating the capsule using externally generated magnetic fields, with optional magnetic imaging guidance and transition-time limitations.
Stated Advantages
The invention provides avoiding unwanted side effects in the subject's body part by configuring the magnetic fields with transition times small enough to prevent unwanted side effects.
Documented Applications
Tissue removal from a subject's body part and adding material to a subject's body part using a magnetically-actuated capsule within a tube.
Magnetic imaging guidance for insertion or movement of a capsule and/or tube within a subject's body part, where manipulation is performed under imaging guidance from magnetic imaging.
