Abstract
Systems and methods for position-based gesture control are described. In some embodiments, a system may include a wearable device including a biopotential sensor and a location sensor. The system may be configured to determine that a body part is in a first position relative to a person's body, detect a first gesture, and, in response, direct a first instruction to a first destination. The system may be further configured to determine that a body part is in a second position relative to the person's body, detect a second gesture, and, in response, direct a second instruction to a second destination different than the first destination.

A method performed using a system comprising a wearable device, comprising determining that a body part is in a first position relative to a body at a first time based on output from a location sensor indicating location of the body part; while the body part is in the first position, detecting a first gesture representative of a first intention based on output from a biopotential sensor indicating biopotentials at the body part; in response to detecting the first gesture while the body part is in the first position, directing a first instruction to a first destination; determining that the body part is in a second position relative to the body at a second time, where the second position differs from the first position; while the body part is in the second position, detecting a second gesture representative of a second intention based on the output from the biopotential sensor; and in response to detecting the second gesture while the body part is in the second position, directing a second instruction to a second destination, wherein the first destination differs from the second destination and the first and second instructions are directed to different destinations based, at least in part, on the first and second gestures being detected while the body part is in different positions relative to the body.
Both independent claims require coupling gesture detection from biopotential sensor output with body-part position determination from a location sensor, and directing different instructions to different destinations depending on both the detected gestures and the positions in which those gestures are detected.
