Abstract
Head wearable devices and methods are disclosed where a head wearable device includes a headpiece including a headband with a top strap, a first housing attached to an outer surface of the top strap of the headband, a depth adjuster attached to the first housing wherein the depth adjuster is configured to change a depth of the headpiece, and a headband adjuster configured to change a circumference of the headpiece.
Core Innovation
A head wearable device is disclosed that includes a headpiece comprising a headband with a top strap and a first housing attached to an outer surface of the top strap. The head wearable device includes one or both of a depth adjuster configured to change a depth of the headpiece and a headband adjuster configured to change a circumference of the headpiece.
The adjustable fit is supported by a first visual index and a second visual index associated with predetermined depth settings and predetermined circumferential settings. The visual indices use specified characters, including sequential letters and/or sequential numbers, and may differ in ranges and/or types of alphanumeric characters so that depth and circumference selection are distinguished.
Comfort and interference mitigation are provided by a padding system for the headpiece, including removable pads and padding with recess or notch features intended to avoid hair or a cap interfering with proper fitment of the headpiece about a head of the wearer. The headpiece may include an occipital basket with a notch formed in a lower edge, and the padding is positioned to reduce contact with sutures between adjacent plates of a skull.
Claims Coverage
The document includes two independent claims, directed to a head wearable device and a method for adjusting a headpiece size to a wearer’s head size. The inventive features emphasized across the independent claims are the headband and top-strap housing arrangement, together with depth adjustment and circumference adjustment.
Top strap mounted first housing on a headband
A headpiece comprising a headband comprising a top strap, and a first housing attached to an outer surface of the top strap of the headband.
Depth adjuster for changing depth of the headpiece
One or both of a depth adjuster attached to the first housing, wherein the depth adjuster is configured to change a depth of the headpiece.
Headband adjuster for changing circumference of the headpiece
One or both of a headband adjuster configured to change a circumference of the headpiece.
Attaching a first housing and adjusting depth and/or circumference to correspond to wearer head size
A method comprising attaching a first housing to the top strap of the headband; and one or both of adjusting, using a depth adjuster attached to the first housing, a depth of the headpiece to correspond to the head size of the wearer, and adjusting, using a headband adjuster, a circumference of the headpiece.
Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on a headband having a top strap with a first housing attached to the top strap exterior and at least one of or both of a depth adjuster and a headband adjuster, together used to size the headpiece to the wearer’s head size.
Stated Advantages
Comfort and interference mitigation by removable pads and padding with recess or notch features intended to avoid hair or a cap interfering with proper fitment of the headpiece about a head of the wearer.
Reduction of contact with sutures between adjacent plates of a skull.
Documented Applications
Head wearable device for fitment about a head of the wearer.
Adjusting a headpiece size to a wearer’s head size.
