Abstract
A clot capture module can include a housing, a chamber inside the housing, a window, and a filter. The window permits visual inspection of a clot inside the chamber. The clot can access the chamber via an incoming flow path configured to direct blood from an aspiration catheter to an upstream surface of the filter. An aspiration control valve can block the flow of incoming aspirated blood until actuated to permit inflow of aspirated blood. An outgoing flow path can direct blood from a downstream surface of the filter to a remote vacuum canister.
Core Innovation
The invention provides a clot capture module for use in a thrombectomy system. The module includes a housing with a clot capture chamber and a window in the housing to permit visual inspection of the clot capture chamber. A filter in the clot capture chamber is visible through the window and has an upstream surface and a downstream surface.
The clot capture module directs incoming blood from an aspiration catheter against the upstream surface of the filter via an incoming flow path. A normally closed aspiration control valve is positioned in the housing in the incoming flow path and blocks flow of incoming aspirated blood until actuated to permit inflow. An outgoing flow path directs blood from a downstream side of the filter to a remote vacuum canister.
The module further includes a normally closed vent positioned in the housing and operable to permit air to be drawn into the clot capture chamber. In additional aspects described, a normally-closed vent is used to draw optically transparent media for clot visualization. A flow-control module with toggle-driven on/off restriction and a dual-chamber configuration are disclosed to support rapid suction response due to reduced flow restriction inside the sterile field.
The disclosure also includes optional coatings for inhibiting blood accumulation/foam and enhancing visualization. Related thrombus engagement tool and aspiration-mechanical thrombectomy aspects are described, together with ancillary devices such as an inserter for hemostasis valves and other system components that support the thrombectomy system architecture.
Claims Coverage
The provided partial content includes one independent claim for the clot capture module, while other independent claims are not included in the provided claim text.
Clot capture module with visible filter and inspection window
A clot capture module for use in a thrombectomy system, comprising a housing, a clot capture chamber in the housing, a window in the housing to permit visual inspection of the clot capture chamber, and a filter in the clot capture chamber visible through the window, the filter having an upstream surface and a downstream surface.
Normally closed aspiration control valve in incoming flow path
An incoming flow path configured to direct incoming blood from an aspiration catheter against the upstream surface of the filter, and a normally closed aspiration control valve in the incoming flow path positioned in the housing, configured to block flow of incoming aspirated blood until actuated to permit inflow of aspirated blood.
Remote vacuum canister with outgoing flow path
An outgoing flow path configured to direct blood from a downstream side of the filter to a remote vacuum canister.
Normally closed vent to draw air into clot capture chamber
A normally closed vent positioned in the housing and operable to permit air to be drawn into the clot capture chamber.
The provided independent claim centers on a clot capture module with a housing-based clot capture chamber and inspection window, a visible filter with upstream and downstream surfaces, an incoming path with a normally closed aspiration control valve, an outgoing path to a remote vacuum canister, and a normally closed vent to draw air into the clot capture chamber.
Stated Advantages
Rapid aspiration response due to reduced flow restriction inside the sterile field.
Enable pulsatile negative pressure via the normally-closed vent.
Enhance clot visualization by drawing optically transparent media and by optional coatings.
Inhibit blood accumulation/foam via optional coatings.
Documented Applications
Thrombectomy system use incorporating a sterile-field clot capture module with visual inspection of clot capture chamber.
Clot visualization use via drawing optically transparent media for viewing through the inspection window.
Mechanical+aspiration thrombectomy with a disclosed thrombus engagement tool and aspiration-mechanical aspects.
Use with ancillary devices including an inserter for hemostasis valves.
