Abstract
A filter assembly for an enclosure, particularly for an ostomy bag, is described having an enclosure side, a first layer which is gas permeable, and an adsorbent layer comprising adsorbent particles dispersed in a fine fiber web. The enclosure side of the filter assembly includes an adhesive zone in which adhesive is present having an outer adhesive perimeter and a weld area surrounding at least a portion of the adhesive zone, where the filter assembly is heat-sealable to the enclosure at the weld area. A method of assembly is also described.
Core Innovation
The invention provides an ostomy filter and an ostomy bag having a stoma opening and a vent opening, where the ostomy filter is attached to cover the vent opening. The ostomy filter includes a bag side secured to the ostomy bag and a first layer that is gas permeable and liquid impermeable, together with an adsorbent layer of adsorbent particles.
The ostomy filter attachment includes an adhesive zone on the bag side, where adhesive is present and the adhesive zone has an outer adhesive perimeter and an inner adhesive perimeter. The inner adhesive perimeter surrounds an exit opening, and a weld area surrounding the adhesive zone heat-seals the filter assembly to the ostomy bag at the weld area.
The invention also provides filter assembly systems for an enclosure using a release liner, in which a plurality of filter assemblies are located on the release liner. Each filter assembly includes an enclosure side and a side opposite from the enclosure side, a first layer that is gas permeable, and an adsorbent layer comprising adsorbent particles.
The enclosure side includes an adhesive zone with an outer adhesive perimeter and a weld area surrounding at least a portion of the adhesive zone so the filter assembly is heat-sealable to the enclosure at the weld area.
Claims Coverage
The provided claim set includes three independent claims that define an ostomy filter attached to an ostomy bag, a system of filter assemblies for an enclosure using a release liner, and a filter assembly for an ostomy bag. Across these independent claims, the main inventive features are a gas-permeable first layer paired with an adsorbent layer, and adhesive-zone attachment combined with a weld-area heat seal.
Ostomy filter attached to cover vent opening with gas-permeable/liquid-impermeable first layer and adsorbent particle layer
An ostomy filter attached to an ostomy bag to cover a vent opening, where the ostomy filter comprises a bag side and a side opposite from the bag side secured to the ostomy bag, a first layer that is gas permeable and liquid impermeable, and an adsorbent layer of adsorbent particles.
Adhesive zone with inner perimeter surrounding an exit opening plus weld area heat-sealing
An adhesive zone on the bag side in which adhesive is present, the adhesive zone having an outer adhesive perimeter and an inner adhesive perimeter, wherein the inner adhesive perimeter surrounds an exit opening and wherein the adhesive attaches the ostomy filter and the ostomy bag at the adhesive zone, and a weld area surrounding the adhesive zone where the filter assembly is heat-sealable to the ostomy bag at the weld area.
Release liner system with multiple enclosure-side filter assemblies having gas-permeable first layer and adsorbent particle layer
A system of filter assemblies for an enclosure and a release liner, comprising a release liner and a plurality of filter assemblies located on the release liner, each filter assembly comprising an enclosure side and a side opposite from the enclosure side, a first layer which is gas permeable, and an adsorbent layer comprising adsorbent particles.
Enclosure-side adhesive zone with outer adhesive perimeter plus weld area for heat-sealing to the enclosure
For each filter assembly, the enclosure side comprises an adhesive zone in which adhesive is present having an outer adhesive perimeter and a weld area surrounding at least a portion of the adhesive zone, where the filter assembly is heat-sealable to the enclosure at the weld area.
Ostomy bag filter assembly with gas-permeable first layer and adsorbent particle layer
A filter assembly for an ostomy bag comprising a bag side and an outer side opposite from the bag side, a first layer which is gas permeable, and an adsorbent layer comprising adsorbent particles.
Bag-side adhesive zone with outer adhesive perimeter plus surrounding weld area for heat-sealing
The bag side of the filter assembly comprises an adhesive zone in which adhesive is present having an outer adhesive perimeter and a weld area surrounding at least a portion of the adhesive zone, where the filter assembly is heat-sealable to the bag at the weld area.
Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on filter assemblies that pair a gas-permeable first layer with an adsorbent layer comprising adsorbent particles, and on attachment to an ostomy bag or enclosure using an adhesive zone, optionally with an inner adhesive perimeter surrounding an exit opening, combined with a surrounding weld area that provides heat-sealable attachment.
Stated Advantages
Improved breakthrough and low pressure drop versus comparative ostomy deodorizing media.
Documented Applications
Venting for ostomy bags, including covering a vent opening with an ostomy filter attached to the ostomy bag.
Ventilation/filtering for an enclosure using a system of filter assemblies located on a release liner.
