Abstract

Hardware and software resources are load balanced when processing multiple blockchains. As more and more entities (whether public or private) are expected to generate their own blockchains for verification, a server or other resource in a blockchain environment may be over utilized. For example, as banks, websites, and retailers issue their own private cryptocoinage, the number of financial transactions may clog or hog networking and/or hardware resources. A blockchain load balancing mechanism thus allocates resources among the multiple blockchains.

Core Innovation

The described system provides a blockchain data-layer system in which a data layer server performs load balancing across multiple private blockchains. The load balancing mechanism allocates server processing and/or memory resources and assigns virtual machines to specific private blockchains based on load parameters associated with the corresponding blockchains, such as financial transactions per second, processing fee priority, scheduled processing times, and bit processing capabilities.

The system uses an electronic database to map blockchain identifiers and/or blockchain parameters to specific virtual machines. The blockchain load balancing mechanism dynamically re-evaluates the virtual machine-to-blockchain assignments over time based on timing parameters, including stop time or calendar entries, to reflect changing load parameters.

The described system further generates a blockchain data layer that records blockchain load balancing mechanism assignments using cryptographic hashing and Merkle proofs. The blockchain data layer can include hashing of directory blocks and/or entry blocks and provide a Merkle proof and/or Merkle root that can be anchored to a public blockchain, enabling recording and verification of the data-layer information associated with the load balancing assignments across the private blockchains.

Claims Coverage

The provided independent claims cover three inventive features: parameter-based virtual machine identification via an electronic database, blockchain load balancing mechanism assignment of the virtual machine to the corresponding blockchain, and recording of the assignment in a blockchain data layer in the memory-device claim.

Parameter-based virtual machine identification via electronic database association

Receiving the blockchains as inputs; determining a parameter associated with a corresponding blockchain; identifying a virtual machine of the virtual machines by querying an electronic database that electronically associates the virtual machines to blockchain parameters including the parameter associated with the corresponding blockchain.

Blockchain load balancing mechanism assigning the virtual machine to the corresponding blockchain

Load balancing the virtual machines to the blockchains by executing a blockchain load balancing mechanism that assigns the virtual machine to the corresponding blockchain; sending the corresponding blockchain to the virtual machine for the processing.

Blockchain data layer recording the load balancing mechanism assignments

Generating a blockchain data layer that records the blockchain load balancing mechanism assigning the virtual machine to the corresponding blockchain.

The independent claims require parameter determination for the corresponding blockchain, electronic-database-based identification of the corresponding virtual machine, and assignment via a blockchain load balancing mechanism followed by sending the corresponding blockchain to the virtual machine for processing. The memory-device independent claim further requires generating a blockchain data layer that records the load balancing mechanism assigning the virtual machine to the corresponding blockchain.
