Abstract

The present invention relates to methods and systems for planning and/or providing neuromodulation. An example system comprisesa neurostimulator comprising a least one electrode, functional mapping module configured and arranged such that based on stimulation related basic data and stimulation related response data and transfer data a digital characteristic functional map is generated and/or provided, which describes the interrelation between the stimulation related basic data and the stimulation related response data and the transfer data, and analysis module configured and arranged such that the digital characteristic functional map may be analyzed in connection with neurostimulation provided by the neurostimulator such that the provided neurostimulation and its response may be analyzed on the basis of the functional map and that on the basis of this analysis a placement analysis of a placement of the electrode is provided.

Core Innovation

The disclosed system for planning and/or providing spinal cord stimulation includes a neurostimulator with at least one electrode, a functional mapping module, and an analysis module. The mapping module generates a digital characteristic functional map from stimulation related basic data, stimulation related response data, and transfer data, with the map describing their interrelation. The analysis module uses the map to analyze neurostimulation, spinal cord response, and electrode placement.

The disclosed method links and/or translates stimulation related basic data with stimulation related response data and/or artificial response data to generate transfer data, then generates a digital characteristic map from those data. It generates a placement proposal based on the map and outputs the proposal through one or more listed presentation devices. The supplied partial content does not include the background section, so the problem identified there is not explicitly described in patent.

Claims Coverage

The two independent claims are claim 1, directed to a spinal cord stimulation system, and claim 13, directed to a method for planning and/or providing neuromodulation of a spinal cord. Together, they cover six main inventive features.

Generation of a digital characteristic functional map

Claim 1 generates a digital characteristic functional map based on stimulation related basic data, stimulation related response data, and transfer data; the map describes an interrelation between those data.

Analysis of neurostimulation and spinal cord response

Claim 1 analyzes the digital characteristic functional map in connection with neurostimulation of a spinal cord and analyzes the neurostimulation and a spinal cord response based on the map.

Analysis of electrode placement

Claim 1 analyzes placement of at least one electrode based on the analysis of the neurostimulation and the spinal cord response.

Generation of transfer data

Claim 13 links and/or translates stimulation related basic data into and/or with stimulation related response data and/or artificial response data to generate transfer data.

Generation of a digital characteristic map

Claim 13 generates a digital characteristic map based on the stimulation related basic data, the stimulation related response data, and the transfer data, describing an interrelation between them.

Generation and output of a placement proposal

Claim 13 generates a placement proposal for placement of at least one electrode based on the digital characteristic map and outputs the proposal via one or more of a display, a loudspeaker, a beamer, and a projector.

Claim 1 covers a system that maps stimulation, response, and transfer data and uses the map to analyze neurostimulation, spinal cord response, and electrode placement. Claim 13 covers generation of transfer data and a digital characteristic map, followed by generation and output of an electrode placement proposal.

Stated Advantages

Not explicitly described in patent.

Documented Applications
