Abstract

Disclosed is a transfer device for use in reconstituting dry drugs and for diluting liquid drugs in drug containers. The transfer device includes a multi-port manifold and a connector suitable to be attached to a drug container, a first conduit to transfer a liquid entering an inlet port of the manifold through the connector and into the drug container, and a second conduit to transfer a gaseous fluid through the connector to an outlet port of the manifold. Also disclosed is a closed liquid transfer system which includes the transfer device, a tube connectable to the inlet port for transporting a liquid to the transfer device, a tube connectable to the outlet port for transporting the gaseous fluid away from the transfer device, and a gas collection container to collect the gaseous fluid in the gas transporting tube.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a closed liquid transfer system and a transfer device for use in reconstituting drugs in a plurality of drug containers. The system includes a multi-port manifold and a connector suitable to be removably attached to an adapter on one of the drug containers. The transfer device further includes a first conduit to transfer a liquid from an inlet port of the manifold through the connector and into the attached drug container.

The transfer device also includes a second conduit to transfer a gaseous fluid from inside the attached drug container through the connector and the manifold to an outlet port of the manifold. A liquid transporting tube is connected to the inlet port for transporting a liquid to the transfer device, while a gas transporting tube is connected to the outlet port for transporting the gaseous fluid away from the transfer device. The system further includes a gas collection container to collect the gaseous fluid from each drug container.

To provide unidirectional routing of expelled gaseous fluid, the system includes a unidirectional valve connected to the gas transporting tube to allow unidirectional flow of the gaseous fluid towards the gas collection container. In dependent aspects, the manifold includes a hermetic seal at the outlet port to prevent liquid from flowing into the gas transporting tube. The arrangement is used in a method that administers a measured amount of a diluent and collects the expelled gaseous fluid, then detaches and repeats for each drug container in the plurality.

Claims Coverage

The independent claims are directed to a closed liquid transfer system, a method, and a transfer device, each using a multi-port manifold with a removably attached connector/adapter, dedicated conduits for liquid and gaseous fluid, and a gas collection path with a unidirectional valve.

Removably attached multi-port manifold connector for sealed transfer into attached drug container

A transfer device with a multi-port manifold and a connector removably attached to an adapter on a drug container, with a first conduit transferring liquid from an inlet port through the connector and into the attached drug container.

Dedicated gaseous fluid conduit to gas collection container with unidirectional flow

A second conduit transferring gaseous fluid from inside the attached drug container through the connector and the manifold to an outlet port, a gas transporting tube transporting the gaseous fluid from the attached container to a gas collection container, and a one-way valve allowing unidirectional flow of the gaseous fluid towards the gas collection container.

Liquid transporting tube and gas transporting tube connected to respective manifold ports

A liquid transporting tube connected to the inlet port for transporting a liquid to the transfer device, and a gas transporting tube connected to the outlet port for transporting the gaseous fluid from the attached container away from the transfer device.

Measured diluent administration with attach, collect gas, detach, and repeat across multiple containers

A method performing attaching an adapter of a first drug container to the connector; administering a measured amount of a diluent into the first drug container through a liquid transporting tube connected to the inlet port and through the first conduit; collecting gaseous fluid expelled from the first drug container in a gas collection container through the gas transporting tube connected to the outlet port and a unidirectional valve; detaching the adapter; and repeating for each drug container in the plurality.

The independent claims consistently cover multi-port manifold-based, connector-adapter removable attachment that supports closed transfer of liquid into a drug container via a first conduit, while gaseous fluid is routed through a second conduit to an outlet port and collected in a gas collection container through a gas transporting tube with a unidirectional valve.

Stated Advantages

Provides a closed liquid transfer system for reconstituting drugs in a plurality of drug containers.

Allows unidirectional flow of expelled gaseous fluid towards a gas collection container.

Enables collection of gaseous fluid expelled from each drug container.

Includes a hermetic seal at the manifold outlet to prevent liquid from flowing into the gas transporting tube.

Documented Applications

Reconstituting drugs in a plurality of drug containers using a closed liquid transfer system and transfer device.

Reconstituting a dry drug and diluting a liquid drug in a plurality of drug containers via a method using the transfer device with a multi-port manifold and removable connector.
