Abstract
Condom catheters and condom catheter systems containing a condom catheter are disclosed. The condom catheter systems utilize suction to attach a condom catheter to a patient's penis. Methods of making and using condom catheters are also disclosed.
Core Innovation
The disclosure relates to a condom catheter and condom catheter system that uses low-pressure negative suction delivered through a side wall port to create a vacuum seal between a condom catheter and a patient’s penis, while permitting distal urinary drainage. The condom catheter includes a cylindrical tubular member sized to extend over the patient’s penis, and an internal tubular member channel that extends along the tubular member inner surface between first and second tubular member ends.
The condom catheter further includes a side wall port positioned along the tubular member. The side wall port includes a side port channel extending along the side port inner surface such that the side port channel provides fluid communication between a side port opening and the tubular member channel, enabling delivery of suction from the suction-providing system through the side wall port to the vacuum seal.
To support the vacuum seal and increase bonding, the condom catheter includes at least one open cell sponge, continuous closed ring positioned within the cylindrical tubular member. When positioned within the cylindrical tubular member, the sponge ring outer surface is positioned along the tubular member inner surface, and the sponge ring inner surface is positioned along the patient’s penis.
Claims Coverage
The claim coverage includes three inventive features across the independent claims.
Condom catheter kit with side wall port suction bonding
A condom catheter kit comprising a condom catheter with a cylindrical tubular member sized to extend over a patient's penis and having a tubular member channel, and a side wall port positioned along the tubular member with a side port channel providing fluid communication between a side port opening and the tubular member channel; and a suction-providing system configured to deliver suction through the side wall port so as to increase a bonding strength between the condom catheter and the patient's penis.
Open cell sponge continuous closed ring for penis bonding
At least one open cell sponge, continuous closed ring sized to be positionable within the cylindrical tubular member, where the sponge ring outer surface is positioned along the tubular member inner surface and the sponge ring inner surface is positioned along a patient's penis.
Method of using side wall port suction to increase bonding strength
A method of using a condom catheter kit comprising positioning at least one open cell sponge, continuous closed ring onto a patient's penis; positioning a condom catheter over the patient's penis and the at least one open cell sponge, continuous closed ring, where the condom catheter includes a cylindrical tubular member with a tubular member channel and a side wall port with a side port channel providing fluid communication between a side port opening and the tubular member channel; and applying suction through the side wall port so as to increase a bonding strength between the condom catheter and the patient's penis.
Across the independent claims, the coverage centers on a condom catheter whose side wall port includes a side port channel communicating with an internal tubular member channel, combined with an open cell sponge continuous closed ring positioned inside the tubular member, where a suction-providing system or applied suction delivers suction through the side wall port to increase bonding strength.
Stated Advantages
Increases bonding strength between the condom catheter and the patient's penis.
Allows distal urine drainage while creating a vacuum seal.
Documented Applications
Use of a condom catheter kit by positioning an open cell sponge, continuous closed ring onto a patient's penis, positioning the condom catheter over the penis and sponge-ring assembly, and applying suction through the side wall port to increase bonding strength.
