Abstract
A valve prosthesis and a system for delivering a valve prosthesis are described herein. The system can include a support frame, a valve anchor comprising an anchoring leg and a plurality of U-shaped members, and a suture coupled to the support frame and slidably coupled to the anchoring leg.
Core Innovation
The described invention relates to a transcatheter prosthetic valve delivery configuration that uses a valve anchor and a support frame coupled by a slidable suture. The valve anchor includes anchoring legs interconnected between a pair of U-shaped members, where each anchoring leg has a longitudinal slot extending along a longitudinal length of the valve anchor. Sutures are looped or coupled to the support frame and slidably coupled to the anchoring legs along the longitudinal slots so that the suture can slide along the longitudinal slot while the anchoring legs remain interconnected with the U-shaped members.
The disclosure also includes delivery packaging and deployment interactions in which the compacted valve anchor and compacted support frame are housed within an outer sheath. In addition, the valve delivery system incorporates a pin-and-lock engagement mechanism, including a nose cone and a cavity, that engages anchoring legs for controlled positioning and then releases the anchoring legs to enable radial expansion. The structural relationship includes anchoring legs with longitudinal slots that permit suture sliding, and support-frame geometry that supports access behavior through major peaks, valleys, and minor peaks.
Further, the invention describes a valve anchor structure in an alternating pattern about a longitudinal axis, with U-shaped members alternating relative to anchoring legs. Each anchoring leg includes a pin connection aperture that is couplable with a delivery system so that second end sections can be actuated separately from base portions of adjacent U-shaped members, thereby allowing base portions to flare out radially relative to the second end sections while the second end sections remain engaged via the pin connection apertures. The support frame carrying prosthetic valve leaflets is slidably coupled to the longitudinal slot of the anchoring leg to permit longitudinal adjustability of the support frame relative to the valve anchor, with additional geometry such as a membrane shaped to cover minor peaks.
Claims Coverage
The provided independent claims cover four core aspects of the disclosed valve prosthesis and delivery system: (i) assembling a sutured, compacted valve anchor and support frame within an outer sheath; (ii) the delivery system architecture with a longitudinal slot and slidably coupled suture; (iii) a valve anchor configuration that enables separate actuation via pin connection apertures and supports radial flare behavior; and (iv) a valve prosthesis that uses sliding coupling between a support frame and a longitudinal slot to permit longitudinal adjustability.
Sutured sliding coupling assembly within an outer sheath
Coupling a plurality of sutures to an end of a support frame; looping the plurality of sutures to a plurality of anchoring legs of a valve anchor so that the plurality of sutures are slidable along the plurality of anchoring legs, wherein each of the anchoring legs is interconnected between a pair of U-shaped members of the valve anchor, wherein each of the plurality of sutures are looped in a respective longitudinal slot of the respective anchoring leg and each respective longitudinal slot extends along a longitudinal length of the valve anchor and wherein each respective suture is slidably coupled along the respective longitudinal slot; compacting the support frame and the valve anchor; and housing the compacted valve anchor and the compacted support frame slidably coupled to the compacted valve anchor within an outer sheath.
Longitudinal slot with support-frame slidably coupled suture
A support frame; a valve anchor comprising an anchoring leg and a plurality of U-shaped members, wherein the anchoring leg comprises a longitudinal slot extending along a longitudinal length of the valve anchor; and a suture coupled to the support frame and slidably coupled to the anchoring leg along the longitudinal slot.
Alternating U-shaped member and anchoring leg anchor with pin-connected separate actuation
A valve anchor comprising U-shaped members and anchoring legs disposed in an alternating pattern about a longitudinal axis of the valve anchor, each U-shaped member having a pair of peak portions and a base portion disposed between the peak portions, each anchoring leg having first and second end sections, each first end section being coupled to peak portions of adjacent U-shaped members, each second end section being opposite the first end section thereof and having a pin connection aperture that is couplable with a delivery system to permit each second end section to be actuated separately from the base portions of the adjacent U-shaped members thereby allowing the base portions to flare out radially relative to the second end sections while the second end sections remain engaged via the pin connection apertures thereof with a valve prosthesis delivery system wherein each anchoring leg comprises a slot extending between the first end section and the second end section, wherein a suture is slidably coupled along each slot.
Support frame slidably coupled to longitudinal slot for longitudinal adjustability
A valve prosthesis comprising a valve anchor comprising an anchoring leg and a plurality of U-shaped members, the anchoring leg having a longitudinal slot extending along a longitudinal length of the valve anchor; and a support frame having a plurality of prosthetic valve leaflets coupled thereto, the support frame being slidably coupled to the longitudinal slot of the anchoring leg for permitting longitudinal adjustability of the support frame relative to the valve anchor.
Across the independent claims, the main inventive elements are: sutures slidably coupled along longitudinal slots of anchoring legs interconnected with U-shaped members and packaged within an outer sheath; a valve anchor/delivery system using an anchoring-leg longitudinal slot to provide sliding suture coupling to a support frame; a valve anchor geometry enabling separate actuation of second end sections via pin connection apertures to flare base portions radially while maintaining engagement; and a valve prosthesis in which the leaflet-bearing support frame is slidably coupled to the longitudinal slot to permit longitudinal adjustability relative to the valve anchor.
