Abstract

Sensors having an advantageous design and methods for fabricating such sensors are generally provided. Some sensors described herein comprise pairs of electrodes having radial symmetry, pairs of nested electrodes, and/or nanowires. Some embodiments relate to fabricating electrodes by methods in which nanowires are deposited from a fluid contacted with a substrate in a manner such that it evaporates and is replenished.

Core Innovation

The invention provides a sensor that uses a circular structure of nanowires formed about a center point. The sensor comprises a plurality of nanowires, wherein the plurality of nanowires comprises at least 30 nanowires, and electrodes disposed on the plurality of nanowires.

The sensor further comprises a blocking layer disposed on the plurality of nanowires, wherein the blocking layer comprises a protein. This protein blocking layer is incorporated into the sensor configuration that includes the circular arrangement of nanowires and electrodes.

A related aspect is a sensor architecture that employs electrode pairs arranged to have radial symmetry around a center point, with at least ten pairs of electrodes. Together with the circular nanowire structure and the protein blocking layer, the electrode layouts are configured around a center point for analysis in a bodily fluid.

Claims Coverage

The independent claims include three inventive aspects: a circular nanowire sensor with electrodes and a protein blocking layer, a radially symmetric electrode-pair arrangement with a protein blocking layer, and a method of exposing such a sensor to a bodily fluid.

Circular nanowire structure with electrodes and protein blocking layer

A sensor comprising a plurality of nanowires arranged to form a circular structure about a center point, wherein the plurality of nanowires comprises at least 30 nanowires; a plurality of electrodes disposed on the plurality of nanowires; a blocking layer disposed on the plurality of nanowires, wherein the blocking layer comprises a protein.

Radially symmetric electrode pairs with protein blocking layer

A sensor comprising a plurality of pairs of electrodes arranged to have radial symmetry around a center point; wherein the plurality of pairs of electrodes comprises at least ten pairs of electrodes; a blocking layer disposed on the plurality of nanowires, wherein the blocking layer comprises a protein.

Exposing circular nanowire electrode sensor to bodily fluid

A method comprising exposing a sensor to a fluid comprising a bodily fluid, wherein the sensor comprises a plurality of nanowires arranged to form a circular structure about a center point, wherein the plurality of nanowires comprises at least 30 nanowires; and a plurality of electrodes disposed on the plurality of nanowires.

Across the independent claims, the core coverage is a sensor architecture combining a circular nanowire arrangement with electrodes and a protein blocking layer, with an additional embodiment using radially symmetric electrode pairs. The method claim covers exposing the sensor to a fluid comprising bodily fluid.
