Abstract

The present disclosure relates to heart valve prostheses, delivery devices, actuation handles, and other improved devices and methods that facilitate delivery of a heart valve prosthesis to a defective native valve structure in a patient, such as the aortic valve.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a valve prosthesis having a support frame with cells arranged to define a bottom edge, a plurality of major peak portions opposite the bottom edge, and at least one minor peak portion disposed longitudinally intermediate the bottom edge and the plurality of major peak portions. The minor peak portion is configured to allow access to and prevent obstruction to the ostia of the patient, and a membrane is attached to the support frame such that the membrane follows the major and/or minor peaks of the support frame.

The support frame geometry and the correspondence of the membrane to the major and minor peaks preserve ostia access. Membrane major peak portions follow and correspond to major peak portions of the support frame, and membrane minor peak portions follow and correspond to the minor peak portions, including wrapping around the corresponding peaks. The membrane covers portions of an inner surface and/or an outer surface of the support frame at the peaks.

The membrane is formed from woven-fiber fabric with fibers extending in a warp direction and a weft direction oriented transverse to each other. In some embodiments, the membrane fabric resists stretching in the warp and weft directions, while permitting compliance along directions that are oblique to the warp and weft directions.

Claims Coverage

The document contains two independent claims. Each claim centers on the same overall inventive concept: a support frame with major peaks and a longitudinally intermediate minor peak to preserve ostia access, together with a membrane attached to follow those peaks, with the second independent claim specifically requiring a woven-fiber membrane fabric with warp/weft transverse orientation.

Support frame with major and minor peaks preserving ostia access

A support frame comprising a plurality of cells arranged to define a bottom edge of the support frame, a plurality of major peak portions opposite the bottom edge, and at least one minor peak portion disposed longitudinally intermediate the bottom edge and the plurality of major peak portions configured to allow access to and prevent obstruction to the ostia of the patient.

Membrane attached to follow the major and/or minor peaks

A membrane attached to the support frame, wherein the membrane follows the major and/or minor peaks of the support frame.

Woven membrane fabric with warp/weft fibers transverse to each other

A membrane attached to the support frame, wherein membrane fabric of the membrane is woven and comprises fibers extending in a warp direction and a weft direction that are oriented transverse relative to each other.

Across the independent claims, the inventive combination is a peak-defined support frame configured to preserve ostia access, with an attached membrane that follows the major and/or minor peaks; the second independent claim further limits the membrane to a woven-fiber fabric having warp and weft directions oriented transverse to each other.

Stated Advantages

Allows access to the ostia of the patient.

Prevents obstruction to the ostia of the patient.

Reduces reliance on radial force for implantation.

Reduces coronary ostia blockage.

Reduces friction/snags during delivery/implantation.

Reduces trauma versus open surgery.

Documented Applications

Percutaneous/transcatheter delivery and implantation of a heart valve prosthesis for aortic valve replacement/replacement-related conditions, including aortic regurgitation.
