Abstract
A binder layer for a laminated wound dressing is brought into contact with a sheet coated with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet. As the binder layer is in contact with the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, a series of closed-loop cuts are made in the binder layer. The closed-loop cuts are made in such a way that the material enclosed by each closed loop is substantially physically separated from the remainder of the binder layer. Then the binder layer is moved away from the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, so that the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are no longer in contact. When the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are moved apart, the material enclosed in the closed-loop cuts—i.e., the cut waste fragments—are retained on the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, ensuring that the binder layer includes a series of cleared perforations.
Core Innovation
The described invention relates to a laminated wound dressing that includes a fiber lower layer and a foam upper layer, where a binder layer is fabricated from polymer fibers. The binder layer includes cleared perforations, while still supporting moisture/exudate transport from the wound area. The binder layer includes a moisture-permeable configuration even when the binder melts and re-solidifies during manufacture.
In the fabrication approach, the binder layer is brought into contact with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet. A series of closed-loop cuts is made in the binder layer, and the binder layer is then moved away from the pattern-coated adhesive sheet such that the binder layer and the pattern-coated adhesive sheet are no longer in contact. Material enclosed in the closed-loop cuts is retained on the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, producing a binder layer that includes a series of cleared perforations.
The laminated dressing is further described as optionally including a controlled-release metal-based or inorganic antimicrobial agent in the foam upper layer. Examples of inorganic/metal-based antimicrobial agents described include zeolites containing metal ions and silver ions.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim set includes one independent claim (clm-00001). It covers a fabrication method with three core inventive features: contacting a binder layer with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet, making closed-loop cuts, and separating the binder so enclosed cut material is retained on the adhesive, resulting in a binder with cleared perforations.
Pattern-coated adhesive contact for binder perforation
A method of fabricating a laminated dressing comprising bringing a binder layer into contact with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet.
Closed-loop cuts to define enclosed material
A method of fabricating a laminated dressing comprising making a series of closed-loop cuts in the binder layer.
Separation leaving cleared perforations
A method of fabricating a laminated dressing comprising moving the binder layer away from the pattern-coated adhesive sheet such that a material enclosed in the closed-loop cuts is retained on the pattern-coated adhesive sheet, whereby the binder layer includes a series of cleared perforations.
Across the independent claim coverage, the key inventive concept is the use of closed-loop cuts made while the binder layer is in contact with a pattern-coated adhesive sheet, followed by separation so enclosed cut material remains on the adhesive, leaving cleared perforations in the binder layer.
