Abstract

This syringe (1) comprises an elongate hollow body (3) forming a reservoir intended to contain a substance to be injected, the body (3) comprising a tip intended to receive a connection device and an opening (32) located at the opposite side of the body (3) relative to the tip, a piston mounted sliding in the body (3) and movable in translation along a longitudinal axis (X3) of the syringe between a retracted position, in which the piston is in abutment at the tip side, and an extended position, in which the piston is in abutment at the opening side (32), gripping members (34, 36) provided on the body (3), and a gripping member (50) provided at an opposite end of the piston relative to a head of the piston. The gripping members (34, 36) provided on the body (3) comprise bearing areas (34a, 36a) for fingers of a user, oriented towards the gripping member (50) of the piston, and the gripping member (50) of the piston comprises at least one bearing area for fingers of the user, located facing the gripping members (34, 36) provided on the body (3). The piston (5) is formed from a single piece made from a material having a Young's modulus greater than 3000 MPa and the piston (5) has no elastic area between the gripping member (50) of same and the substance to be injected.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a manually operable syringe comprising an elongate hollow body forming a reservoir intended to contain a substance to be injected. The hollow body includes a tip intended to receive a connection device and an opening located at an opposite end relative to the tip. A one-piece piston is mounted slidably in the hollow body and is movable in translation along a longitudinal axis between a retracted position and an extended position.

In the retracted position, the head of the one-piece piston is in abutment at the tip, and in the extended position the head is in abutment at the opening. The head of the one-piece piston includes a surface configured to be in contact with the substance to be injected and a peripheral groove configured to receive an o-ring seal, and the peripheral groove is located inward from the surface configured to be in contact with the substance to be injected.

The one-piece piston is made from a material having a Young’s modulus greater than 3000 MPa such that the one-piece piston has no elastic zone, along the longitudinal axis of the syringe, from the gripping member to the surface in contact with the substance to be injected. Gripping members are provided on the hollow body and include bearing zones for fingers of a user, oriented toward the gripping member of the one-piece piston. The gripping member of the one-piece piston includes bearing zones for fingers of the user, with concave formations provided on ribs on each side of the rod such that the concave formations form bearing zones oriented at 90° to one another about the rod.

The syringe further includes an o-ring seal mounted in the peripheral groove of the head and configured to extend between the one-piece piston and an inner wall of the hollow body. The gripping member of the one-piece piston and the gripping members provided on the hollow body are arranged to improve one-hand manipulation, including configurations with bearing zones facing one another. The tip and/or surrounding structures may include a peripheral flange with longitudinal gripping ribs, and the gripping members may cooperate with rotational movement of the piston and/or gripping members.

Claims Coverage

The partial content provides one independent claim (clm-00001) with five inventive features concerning the syringe body and reservoir, the one-piece high-stiffness translating piston with sealing arrangement, and cooperative finger-grip geometry and orientation about the piston rod.

One-piece piston translating between tip abutment and opening abutment

A one-piece piston comprising a head, a rod, and a gripping member, mounted slidably in the hollow body and movable in translation along a longitudinal axis between a retracted position and an extended position.

Head sealing with a peripheral groove receiving an o-ring seal

The piston head comprises a surface configured to be in contact with the substance to be injected and a peripheral groove configured to receive an o-ring seal, with the peripheral groove located inward from the substance-contact surface and the o-ring seal extending between the piston and an inner wall of the hollow body.

High-stiffness one-piece piston with no elastic zone for direct tactile transmission

The one-piece piston is made from a material having a Young’s modulus greater than 3000 MPa such that the one-piece piston has no elastic zone, along the longitudinal axis from the gripping member to the substance-contact surface.

Cooperative finger-grip bearing zones oriented toward one another

Gripping members provided on the hollow body comprise bearing zones for fingers of a user, the bearing zones being oriented toward the gripping member of the one-piece piston, and the piston gripping member comprises bearing zones located facing the hollow-body gripping members.

Concave rib formations forming piston finger bearing zones at 90° about the rod

The bearing zones of the one-piece piston comprise concave formations provided on the ribs on each side of the rod such that the concave formations form the piston bearing zones oriented at 90° to one another about the rod.

Independent claim clm-00001 is directed to a syringe with an elongate reservoir body and a one-piece high-stiffness piston that translates between tip and opening abutment while sealing with an o-ring via a peripheral groove. The claim also requires cooperative finger bearing zones provided on both the hollow body and the piston gripping member, using concave rib formations oriented at 90° about the rod.

Stated Advantages

Improved one-hand manipulation.

Documented Applications
