Abstract

This medical device (2) comprises a pre-filled syringe (3) comprising a syringe body (4) and a piston (16) mounted sliding in the syringe body (4), the syringe body (4) and the piston (16) delimiting an internal chamber (17) containing a fluid to be administered; and a package (21) in which the pre-filled syringe (3) is arranged, the package (21) comprising first and second package portions (22, 23) mounted movable relative to each other between a storage configuration in which the first and second package portions (22, 23) prevent the pre-filled syringe (4) from being removed from the package (21), and an open configuration in which the first and second package portions (22, 23) allow the pre-filled syringe (3) to be removed from the package (21), a movement of the first and second package portions (22, 23) from the storage configuration to the open configuration causing the piston (16) to move from a first piston position to a second piston position.

Core Innovation

A medical device is provided that combines a pre-filled syringe with a package having first and second package portions movable relative to each other between a storage configuration and an opening configuration. The pre-filled syringe includes a syringe body and a piston slidably mounted in an axial direction of displacement, where the syringe body and the piston delimit an inner chamber containing a fluid to be administered to a patient. The pre-filled syringe further includes a piston rod secured in translation with the piston and movably mounted relative to the syringe body in the axial direction of displacement.

In the storage configuration, the first and second package portions prevent removal of the pre-filled syringe out from the package, while in the opening configuration the first and second package portions enable at least partial removal of the pre-filled syringe out from the package. Displacement of the first and second package portions from the storage configuration to the opening configuration causes displacement of the piston from a first piston position to a second piston position, and the package portion displacement displaces the piston rod with respect to the syringe body during the displacement between the configurations.

The medical device further includes package configurations that occupy an intermediate activation configuration, where displacement from the storage configuration to the intermediate activation configuration causes displacement of the piston in a first axial direction. A guide assembly guides one package portion relative to the other according to a first helical movement in a first winding direction during the displacement to the intermediate activation configuration, and according to a second helical movement in a second winding direction reversed with respect to the first winding direction during displacement from the intermediate activation configuration to the opening configuration. In a further embodiment, the first and second package portions pivot about a pivot axis, and a cam surface actuating member displaces the piston rod from a first rod position to a second rod position during pivoting.

Claims Coverage

The partial content provides three independent claims. Across these independent claims, the core coverage centers on how package movement between a storage configuration and an opening configuration drives piston displacement in the pre-filled syringe, including an intermediate activation configuration with helical guidance and an alternative pivot-plus-cam actuation configuration.

Package-driven piston displacement during storage-to-opening transition

A package with first and second package portions movable relative to each other between a storage configuration and an opening configuration, where the storage configuration prevents removal of the pre-filled syringe and the opening configuration enables at least partial removal, and package displacement causes displacement of the piston rod with respect to the syringe body so that the piston moves from a first piston position to a second piston position.

Intermediate activation configuration with reversed helical movement guide assembly

First and second package portions occupy an intermediate activation configuration, where displacement from the storage configuration to the intermediate activation configuration causes displacement of the piston in a first axial direction, and a guide assembly guides one package portion relative to the other according to a first helical movement in a first winding direction during displacement from storage to intermediate activation and according to a second helical movement in a second winding direction reversed with respect to the first winding direction during displacement from intermediate activation to the opening configuration.

Pivoting package portion with cam surface actuating member displacing piston rod

First and second package portions pivot relative to each other about a pivot axis between a storage configuration and an opening configuration, where an actuating member with a cam surface displaces the piston rod from a first rod position to a second rod position during pivoting, and the displacement of the package portions from storage to opening causes displacement of the piston from a first piston position to a second piston position.

The independent claims collectively cover a pre-filled syringe disposed in a movable package, where transition between storage and opening configurations drives piston displacement, with specific mechanisms including an intermediate activation configuration with reversed helical guidance and an alternative pivoting package portion using a cam surface to displace the piston rod.
