Abstract

The present disclosure provides for and includes improved devices and methods for the production of Purified Hydrogen Peroxide Gas (PHPG) that is substantially non-hydrated and substantially free of ozone.

Core Innovation

The invention describes standalone and HVAC-integrated photocatalytic devices that produce and direct non-hydrated purified hydrogen peroxide gas (PHPG). Air flows through an air-permeable, catalyst-coated mesh illuminated by a source of light. The disclosed design minimizes gas residence time at the catalyst to reduce PHPG destruction, and identifies mesh open area, airflow incidence angle, catalyst composition, and upstream filtration as relevant design features.

The supplied partial content reports examples with no detected ozone and PHPG output that varies with mesh geometry and airflow incidence angle. It describes production at some tested angles, declining output at lower angles, and no detectable output below a stated angle. The partial content does not include the background section, so the problem being solved as described there is not explicitly described.

Claims Coverage

The claims contain two independent claims, each directed to a photocatalytic device for producing non-hydrated purified hydrogen peroxide gas (PHPG): one for a standalone device and one for a device installed in an HVAC system.

Enclosed PHPG-producing device

Claim 1 covers an enclosure, an air distribution mechanism providing airflow, a light source, and an air-permeable substrate structure comprising a catalyst-coated mesh with 10% to 60% open area. The airflow passes through the mesh, and the device produces PHPG and directs it out of the enclosure. Dependent claims specify catalyst and light-source alternatives and catalyst thickness.

HVAC-integrated PHPG-producing device

Claim 7 covers a device installed in an HVAC system, comprising a light source and a catalyst-coated mesh with 10% to 60% open area. Air flows from the HVAC system through the mesh, and the device produces PHPG and directs it into the heated, ventilated, and air-conditioned space. Dependent claims specify catalyst and light-source alternatives, catalyst thickness, and upstream filtration.

The independent claims cover standalone and HVAC-integrated arrangements that use airflow through an illuminated, catalyst-coated mesh to produce and direct PHPG. The dependent claims further define catalyst and light-source choices, catalyst thickness, and, for the HVAC system, upstream filtration.
