Abstract
Systems and methods for fitness tracking are provided. An exercise apparatus is in networked communication with a fitness tracking computing system. The configuration and location of movable components of the exercise apparatus is determined based on sensors. This information is provided to the fitness tracking computing system via networked communication.
Core Innovation
The invention relates to an exercise system that includes an exercise apparatus and a fitness tracking computing system communicating over a network. The exercise apparatus includes a communication module, a housing, and an extension arm assembly operatively coupled to the housing. The extension arm assembly is adjustable to a plurality of different positions, where each position corresponds to a different type of exercise performable on the exercise apparatus.
At least one sensor generates a signal based at least in part on a position of the extension arm assembly, such that the signal is useable to determine whether the extension arm assembly is in a proper position and whether the extension arm assembly is an instructed position. In connection with the instructed position, the fitness tracking computing system transmits an exercise instruction to the exercise apparatus identifying at least one of the plurality of different positions for the extension arm assembly.
The fitness tracking computing system receives exercise event data from the exercise apparatus. The event data is based on movement of a movable member, and the documented content includes example exercise event data categories such as distance traveled, timing information, resistance information, repetition information, and set information, or combinations thereof.
Claims Coverage
The independent claims cover a networked exercise system with three core inventive features: an adjustable extension arm assembly mapped to different exercise types, sensor-based proper-position and instructed-position determination, and a coordinated instruction-and-feedback loop between the exercise apparatus and a fitness tracking computing system. The claims also recite receiving exercise event data based on movable-member movement.
Networked exercise instruction and event data feedback
A fitness tracking computing system communicates with the exercise apparatus over the network, transmits an exercise instruction identifying at least one of the plurality of different positions or the instructed position, and receives exercise event data from the exercise apparatus.
Adjustable extension arm positions mapped to exercise types
An extension arm assembly operatively coupled to the housing is adjustable to a plurality of different positions, and each different position corresponds to a different type of exercise performable on the exercise apparatus.
Sensor-based proper-position and instructed-position determination
At least one sensor generates a signal based at least in part on a position of the extension arm assembly, and the signal is useable to determine whether the extension arm assembly is in a proper position and whether the extension arm assembly is an instructed position.
Exercise event data based on movable-member movement
The exercise apparatus includes a movable member movable during an exercise event, and the fitness tracking computing system receives exercise event data from the exercise apparatus based on movement of the movable member.
Across the independent claims, the exercise system is centered on an adjustable extension arm assembly with sensor-generated position signals used to determine proper and instructed positions, a fitness tracking computing system that transmits exercise instructions identifying an extension-arm position over a network, and the receipt of exercise event data from the exercise apparatus based on movable-member movement.
