Abstract

A graphical user interface for a remote controlled robot system that includes a robot view field that displays information provided by a robot and an observer view field that display observer information about one or more observers that can receive the robot information. The interface has various features that allow a master user to control the observation and participation of the observers.

Core Innovation

The invention relates to a telepresence device system in which a telepresence device camera and telepresence device monitor interact with multiple user devices. A first user device controls movement of the telepresence device and displays video from the telepresence device camera in a user interface that includes a remote view field.

The user interface further includes an observer view field displaying observer information about an observer at a second user device. A selectable feature allows a user of the first user device to transfer control of movement of the telepresence device to the second user device while continuing to display video provided by the telepresence device at the first user device.

The system changes which camera image is shown on the telepresence device monitor depending on which user device controls movement. When the first user device controls the telepresence device, the telepresence device monitor displays an image provided by the camera of the first user device and not the second user device; when the second user device controls the telepresence device, the telepresence device monitor displays an image provided by the camera of the second user device and not the first user device.

Claims Coverage

One independent claim is identified. The coverage centers on a control-transfer telepresence workflow with a user interface that includes a remote view field and an observer view field, and on conditional monitor image switching tied to which user device controls movement.

Remote view field with first user control of telepresence movement

A first user device coupled to and controlling movement of the telepresence device, wherein the first user device includes a camera and a monitor that displays a user interface including a remote view field that displays video provided by the telepresence device camera.

Observer view field for observer information

The user interface displayed at the first user device includes an observer view field that displays observer information about an observer at the second user device.

Selectable control transfer to second user while continuing first-device video display

A selectable feature that allows a user of the first user device to transfer control of the movement of the telepresence device to the second user device while continuing to display video provided by the telepresence device at the first user device.

Conditional telepresence monitor image switching based on controlling user device

The telepresence device monitor displays an image provided by the camera of the first user device and not the second user device when the first user device controls the telepresence device, and displays an image provided by the camera of the second user device and not the first user device when the second user device controls the telepresence device.

The independent claim covers a telepresence device system where a first user controls telepresence movement with a remote view field, an observer view field shows observer information at a second user device, control can be transferred via a selectable feature, and the telepresence monitor conditionally displays camera images based on which user device controls movement.
