Abstract

The present embodiments provide for simple devices that guide the loading and dispensing of accurate small doses of fluid from standard injection syringes.

Core Innovation

The invention describes a kit and associated syringe-guiding structures for accurate small-dose loading and delivery using an injection syringe having a syringe barrel and a plunger rod. The kit includes a syringe needle and a dose-delivery guide configured to be disposed at least partially around the plunger rod adjacent to the proximal end of the syringe barrel.

The dose-delivery guide is rigid along its height and is configured to stop movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at a first predetermined distance defined between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and the distal end of the plunger rod. The kit also includes a dose-loading guide comprising a grip portion and a collar portion connected to the grip portion, where the collar portion is rigid along its height and defines an opening that removably receives the dose-delivery guide during dose-loading.

The collar portion is configured to stop movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at a second predetermined distance defined between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and the distal end of the plunger rod, and the grip portion facilitates positioning of the collar portion around the dose-delivery guide during dose loading and removal after dose loading. A difference between the first predetermined distance and the second predetermined distance defines a dose volume.

Claims Coverage

The independent kit claim includes an injection syringe, a dose-delivery guide, and a dose-loading guide arranged around the plunger rod to mechanically stop plunger movement at first and second predetermined distances, where the difference between those distances defines a dose volume. Three inventive features are identified.

Rigid dose-delivery guide stop at first predetermined distance

A dose-delivery guide is configured to be disposed at least partially around the plunger rod adjacent to the proximal end of the syringe barrel, is rigid along its height, and stops movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at a first predetermined distance defined between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and the distal end of the plunger rod.

Removably received rigid dose-loading collar stop at second predetermined distance

A dose-loading guide comprises a grip portion and a collar portion connected to the grip portion, where the collar portion is rigid along its height, defines an opening that removably receives the dose-delivery guide during dose-loading, and stops movement of the plunger rod into the syringe barrel at a second predetermined distance defined between the proximal end of the syringe barrel and the distal end of the plunger rod.

Dose volume defined by difference between predetermined distances

A difference between the first predetermined distance and the second predetermined distance defines a dose volume.

The claim coverage centers on mechanically defining two rigid plunger-travel stop distances using a dose-delivery guide and a dose-loading collar that removably receives the dose-delivery guide, with the dose volume defined as the difference between those distances.

Stated Advantages

Improved dose accuracy by reducing variability.

Documented Applications

Accurate small-dose loading and delivery using standard injection syringes, including use cases involving HPLC/autosampler syringes.

Use with pharmaceutical compositions including ranibizumab, bevacizumab, and VEGF Trap-Eye.

Use with BD 0.5 cc Hypak glass syringe, BD PrecisionGlide 27 G 1/2" needle, Becton Dickinson 28 gauge insulin syringe (product no. 309300), tuberculin syringe, and 28 gauge insulin syringe.
