Abstract

An auto-injector operable in a single activation step. The auto-injector is automatically armed when removed from its carrying receptacle. The auto-injector may be prefilled with more than one constituent of a beneficial agent, stored in separated compartments, in such an arrangement that the compartments will automatically merge when the auto-injector is removed from its carrying receptacle.

Core Innovation

The auto-injector arrangement includes an auto-injector comprising an injector body housing a beneficial agent and an activation member extending from the injector body. When the activation member is moved toward the injector body, it activates the auto-injector to expel the beneficial agent from an injector end. An actuator impedes the activation member from moving toward the injector body in a first auto-injector arrangement state.

The arrangement includes an administration assembly housed within the injector body and moveable relative to the injector body. The actuator is moveably connected to the administration assembly, and the actuator comprises an anchoring link adapted to be connected to an anchoring body. In the first auto-injector arrangement state, the auto-injector is rendered incapable of expelling the beneficial agent, and in a second auto-injector arrangement state, the auto-injector is rendered capable of expelling the beneficial agent.

When the actuator is moved relative to the injector body, the administration assembly is extended away from the injector body and the auto injector moves from the first auto-injector arrangement state to the second auto-injector arrangement state. The beneficial agent is described as being configured for separated storage in compartments and automatic merging upon a state transition, providing a mixing auto-injector arrangement state behavior. The described architecture further includes a compressed gas source that provides gas pressure to expel the beneficial agent and is incapable of opening in the first auto-injector arrangement state but capable of being opened in the second auto-injector arrangement state.

Claims Coverage

The document provides one independent claim, with multiple dependent claims refining the actuator state logic, relative motion, anchoring link structure, expelling mechanism constraints, and a multi-compartment beneficial-agent merging configuration. The inventive features across the independent claim center on state-dependent prevention/enabling of expelling linked to actuator-driven extension of the administration assembly, using an actuator with an anchoring link connected to an anchoring body.

State-dependent activation impeding and enabling of expelling

An actuator impedes the activation member from moving toward the injector body in a first auto-injector arrangement state; when in the first auto-injector arrangement state, the auto-injector is rendered incapable of expelling the beneficial agent; and when in a second auto-injector arrangement state, the auto-injector is rendered capable of expelling the beneficial agent.

Actuator-connected administration assembly extension causing state transition

An administration assembly housed within the injector body and moveable relative to the injector body; the actuator moveably connected to the administration assembly; and when the actuator is moved relative to the injector body, the administration assembly is extended away from the injector body and the auto injector moves from the first auto-injector arrangement state to the second auto-injector arrangement state.

Anchoring link adapted to connect to anchoring body

The actuator comprises an anchoring link adapted to be connected to an anchoring body.

Activation member activates expelling when moved toward injector body

An activation member extending from the injector body that, when moved toward the injector body, activates the auto-injector to expel the beneficial agent from an injector end.

Overall, the claim set grounds coverage in an auto-injector where expelling is prevented in a first arrangement state and enabled in a second arrangement state. The state transition is driven by actuator movement that extends a moveable administration assembly away from the injector body, with actuator functionality tied to an anchoring link connected to an anchoring body and activation logic via movement of the activation member toward the injector body.
