Abstract
A computer implemented coaching platform is described that utilizes contextual data associated with a user and/or his environment in order to provide dynamically changing content while the user is undergoing physical activity. Related apparatus, systems, techniques and articles are also described.
Core Innovation
An electronic coaching platform provides an electronic content authoring tool and a workout store to support routine-based activity coaching. The content authoring tool electronically receives a routine definition of a routine of an activity, where the routine definition includes one or more segments, and each segment includes at least one of a segment parameter, a segment goal, and a segment prompt library. The segment parameters include at least one of duration, distance, and intensity, and the routine definition includes one or more no-scoring segments that do not have an associated segment goal.
The platform retrieves, based on a received selection by a user, at least part of the routine definition to download to an electronic device associated with the user, and formats the routine definition in a non-transitory machine-readable format for electronic transmission via a communications network. The formatted routine definition is stored in local memory. During performance, the platform receives biofeedback data from one or more sensors associated with the user and connected with the electronic device, where the biofeedback data provides at least one contextual attribute associated with the user.
The platform analyzes the at least one contextual attribute based on a segment goal to determine a state of the user during each segment, calculates a routine score based on the biofeedback data indicating how the user is able to follow and achieve segment goals defined by the routine definition, and adjusts the routine score based on the biofeedback data. The routine definition includes one or more no-scoring segments that do not affect the routine score.
A workout engine hosted on the electronic device accesses the workout store and selects one or more prompts from the segment prompt library based on the state of the user or the user's performance of the routine and the routine score. The selected prompt includes sensory feedback information formatted as a combination of visual feedback, auditory feedback, and tactile feedback, and the content authoring tool can support coach-defined training plans composed of multiple routine definitions.
Claims Coverage
The independent claims cover a computer-implemented coaching workflow with an electronic content authoring tool, a workout store and engine on a user electronic device, sensor-based biofeedback analysis per segment, routine scoring that excludes no-scoring segments, and prompt selection that drives multi-modality sensory feedback. The inventive features are distributed across three independent claims.
Segment-based routine definition with scoring and no-scoring segments
A routine definition of a routine of an activity includes one or more segments where each segment includes at least one of a segment parameter, a segment goal, and a segment prompt library, the segment parameter including at least one of duration, distance, and intensity defining the routine, and the routine definition includes one or more no-scoring segments that do not have an associated segment goal.
Electronic download and transmission of formatted routine definitions
The platform retrieves, based on a received selection by a user, at least part of the routine definition to download to an electronic device associated with the user and formats the routine definition in a non-transitory machine-readable format for electronic transmission via a communications network from the computer, and stores each formatted routine definition in a local memory.
Sensor biofeedback analysis per segment goal to determine user state
The platform receives biofeedback data from one or more sensors associated with the user and connected with the electronic device, where the biofeedback data provides at least one contextual attribute associated with the user while performing the routine to analyze the at least one contextual attribute based on a segment goal of the routine definition to determine a state of the user during each segment of the routine.
Routine score calculation and score adjustment using biofeedback with no-scoring segments excluding score impact
The platform calculates a routine score based on the biofeedback data indicating how the user is able to follow and achieve segment goals defined by the routine definition, the routine definition including one or more no-scoring segments that do not affect the routine score, and adjusts the routine score based on the biofeedback data.
Workout store and workout engine prompt selection based on user state/performance and routine score
A workout store in digital communication with the local memory to receive one or more routine definitions defined by the content authoring tool stores the routine definitions and metadata in a database and organizes them for access by a workout engine hosted on the electronic device, the workout engine being configured to select one or more prompts from the segment prompt library based on the state of the user or the user's performance of the routine and the routine score.
Multi-modality sensory feedback formatting for selected prompts
The selected prompt includes sensory feedback information associated with the routine, where the sensory feedback information is formatted as a combination of visual feedback, auditory feedback, and tactile feedback.
User-device hosted coaching apparatus that provides sensory output
An electronic coaching apparatus includes an electronic device associated with the user configured to download the routine definition via a communications network, receive biofeedback data from one or more sensors to determine a state of the user during each segment, calculate a routine score excluding no-scoring segments, adjust the routine score based on the biofeedback data, access a workout store through a workout engine to download routine definitions and select prompts from the segment prompt library, and provide the sensory feedback information through a sensory output device.
Across the independent claims, the core coverage is the combination of segmented routine definitions with segment goals and segment prompt libraries including no-scoring segments, sensor-driven contextual analysis per segment goal to determine user state, routine scoring with no-scoring segments excluded and routine score adjustment, and prompt selection by a workout engine based on state/performance and routine score to produce sensory feedback formatted as visual, auditory, and tactile information.
