Abstract

A system and method includes obtaining content extracted from an electronic document, the electronic document having a document type. At least some of the content is transmitted to an online social networking system based on the document type. A recommended content change is received from the online social networking system. A user interface dynamically displays the recommended content change concurrently with display of the electronic document as the electronic document is updated.

The invention provides an electronic document content augmentation system that obtains content extracted from an electronic document, where the electronic document has a document type. At least some of the extracted content is transmitted, via a network interface, to an online social networking system based on the document type, and the system receives, via the network interface, a recommended content change from the online social networking system.

The system causes a user interface to dynamically display the recommended content change concurrently with display of the electronic document as the electronic document is updated. The document type supports extracting and using content in a document-type-dependent way, and the system can map content to predetermined sections and base recommendations on section-matched content.

The recommended content change can include suggested changes to words, including a replacement grammatical structure and/or a replacement word. The recommended content change can also reorder predetermined sections of the electronic document using information obtained from the online social networking system. Additionally, the system can determine whether section content meets an enablement criterion and only transmit, receive, and display content for sections that meet the enablement requirement.
