Abstract
This invention is directed to methods for treating and preventing influenza infection by inhibiting influenza virus HA maturation processes employing compounds of formula I. It is also directed to combinations for treating and preventing influenza infection comprising compounds of formula I and other agents.
Core Innovation
A method is described for treating a patient suffering from an influenza-like illness by administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. The influenza-like illness comprises one or more respiratory symptoms selected from erythematous oropharynx, hypertrophic tonsils, nasal congestion, rhonchi and adenomegaly.
The compound of formula I is defined by specific substituent conditions on R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, the remainder of R1, R2, and R3, R6, and R9. At least one of R1, R2, and R3 is OH or an ester thereof, while R4, R5, and the remainder of R1, R2, and R3 are H; R6 is NO2 and R9 is H.
The method further specifies that the compound of formula I is administered at a dose selected from 100 mg to 600 mg. Documented embodiments further include selected dose options within this range and specified administration frequency, and refine the clinical symptom threshold by requiring an influenza-like illness with three or more respiratory symptoms chosen from the listed group.
Claims Coverage
The independent claim covers a therapeutic method for influenza-like illness by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt under specific substituent conditions, with influenza-like illness defined by selected respiratory symptoms and a dose range. One independent claim is explicitly provided in the supplied claim list.
Treating influenza-like illness by administering formula I compound
Administering to a patient suffering from an influenza-like illness a therapeutically effective amount of a compound of formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, where the influenza-like illness comprises one or more respiratory symptoms selected from erythematous oropharynx, hypertrophic tonsils, nasal congestion, rhonchi and adenomegaly.
Defined substituent pattern for formula I
A compound of formula I wherein at least one of R1, R2, and R3 is OH or an ester thereof; R4, R5, and the remainder of R1, R2, and R3 are H; R6 is NO2; and R9 is H.
Therapeutic dosing within 100 mg to 600 mg
Administering the compound of formula I at a dose selected from 100 mg to 600 mg.
Overall, the claim coverage centers on a defined formula I substituent pattern used to treat influenza-like illness, where the illness is defined by specific respiratory symptom(s), and the therapy uses a therapeutically effective dose selected from 100 mg to 600 mg. Dependent claims refine the symptom-count threshold, specific dose options, administration frequency, and selected embodiment compound selections as provided in the supplied dependents.
