Abstract

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture consistent with the present invention provide for deploying an offering to a customer in a data processing system having an offering platform program. A customer asset that is a hardware or software component of a customer device is located. The customer asset and its location on the customer device are identified by the offering. A request to deploy the offering is received. The offering is transmitted to the customer device and enabled on the customer device.

An asset platform program running on the customer device discovers an asset that comprises a software program running on the customer device, and registers the discovered asset with at least two offering platforms, including a first offering platform local to the customer device and a second offering platform remote from the customer device.

The system determines whether an entitlement classification of the offering is commensurate with an entitlement level of an asset platform on the customer device, and transmits the offering from the offering platform to the offering module on the asset platform only if the entitlement classification is commensurate with the entitlement level.

The offering is implemented by updating the asset or performing a service associated with the asset, with offering module business logic abstracted from deployment capabilities and exposed through web services endpoint interfaces.
