Abstract
A system for facilitating measurement of a person's blood pressure having: a) a cuff that is configured to: i) be operatively situated in relationship to a person's arm; and ii) strategically exert different pressure on the person's arm to controllably restrict blood flow therein; and b) a base assembly that supports the cuff. The base assembly is configured to allow selective placement of the cuff in first and second different positions relative to the person with the person in a measurement taking position. The cuff in the first position is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's left arm. The cuff in the second position is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's right arm.
Core Innovation
A blood-pressure measurement system is disclosed in which a cuff is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to a person's arm and strategically exert different pressure to controllably restrict blood flow therein for facilitating measurement of the person's blood pressure. The system includes a base assembly that supports the cuff and selectively places the cuff in first and second positions relative to the person with the person in a measurement taking position. In the first position, the cuff is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's left arm, and in the second position, the cuff is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's right arm.
The base assembly is described with an elongated cantilevered arm having a first moving part and a second moving part. An upward facing surface is configurable to support the person's elbow, and a hand grasping component is configured to allow grasping by either the patient's left hand or the patient's right hand. The upward facing surface is formed on the second moving part, the first moving part is connected to the second moving part, and the hand grasping component is configured to be positioned where the first moving part and the second moving part are connected.
The elongated cantilevered arm is configured to selectively move the cuff towards and away from a support frame assembly, enabling selective positioning of the cuff while the person remains in the same measurement-taking position. The disclosure provides context for use in a kiosk or wheelchair setting, including a support frame assembly with a monitor/display, and a movable seating component having an active position and a stored position.
Claims Coverage
The document provides one independent claim directed to a blood-pressure measurement facilitation system. The inventive coverage centers on a cuff that controllably restricts blood flow and a base assembly that selectively positions the cuff for left-arm and right-arm measurements while the person remains in a measurement-taking position.
Cuff configured to controllably restrict blood flow
A cuff is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's arm and strategically exert different pressure on the person's arm to controllably restrict blood flow therein.
Selective left/right cuff positioning with person in measurement-taking position
The base assembly allows selective placement of the cuff in first and second positions relative to the person with the person in a measurement taking position, where the cuff in the first position is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's left arm and the cuff in the second position is configured to be operatively situated in relationship to the person's right arm.
Elongated cantilevered arm moving cuff toward and away from support frame
An elongated cantilevered arm selectively moves the cuff towards and away from a support frame assembly.
Elbow support and left/right hand grasping on cantilever joint
The base assembly includes an elongated cantilevered arm with a first moving part, a second moving part, an upward facing surface configurable to support the person's elbow, and a hand grasping component configured to allow for grasping by either the patient's left hand or the patient's right hand, where the hand grasping component is positioned where the first moving part and the second moving part are connected and extends upward perpendicularly from the first moving part and the second moving part.
Overall, the claim coverage is anchored by the combination of a cuff that controllably restricts blood flow and a base assembly with an elongated cantilevered arm and a hand-grasping component that enables selective left-arm and right-arm cuff placement while moving the cuff toward and away from a support frame, with an upward facing surface configurable to support the person's elbow.
Stated Advantages
Facilitates measurement of a person's blood pressure by strategically exerting different pressure via the cuff to controllably restrict blood flow.
Enables selective placement of the cuff for the person's left arm or right arm while the person remains in the same measurement-taking position.
Allows the elongated cantilevered arm to selectively move the cuff towards and away from a support frame assembly for the measurement.
Documented Applications
Use in a kiosk or wheelchair setting with a support frame assembly including a monitor/display and a movable seating component having an active position and a stored position for blood pressure measurement.
