Abstract
A device for stabilizing a patient catheter includes a docking pod with a body, an inlet, an outlet, an internal fluid path between the inlet and the outlet, and a securement surface located on an underside of the docking pod. A docking pod adhesive layer located at least partially on the securement surface of the docking pod may secure the docking pod to the patient such that the securement surface and the docking pod adhesive layer form a generally planar or concave surface when secured to the patient. A valve mechanism located within the internal fluid path of the docking pod may control fluid flow through the docking pod. The device may also have a luer connector that is fluidly connected to the outlet of the docking pod and configured to be connected to the catheter.
Core Innovation
A catheter connection and stabilization device is provided for medical analysis, including a docking pod with an internal fluid path and openings configured to be placed in fluid communication with a patient catheter. The docking pod is connected to the catheter to establish a fluid pathway through the docking pod, and an analyzing element is located at least partially within a substrate.
The device includes a substrate having a first film layer and at least a second film layer, where the film layers at least partially define a first fluid pathway extending through the substrate and fluidly connected to the inlet opening of the docking pod. The analyzing element located at least partially within the substrate is configured to analyze at least one characteristic of the patient using fluid routed through the film-defined fluid pathway.
Stabilization and fluid-flow control are addressed via a transparent dressing/window with film-defined kink-resistant fluid pathways, including a pressure-activated valve mechanism having a diaphragm with a slit and cracking pressure, and an adhesive-secured docking pod. The stabilization includes securement surfaces and strain relief features intended to minimize catheter movement and kinking, while the fluid architecture supports priming/venting and fluid connection to enable analysis.
Claims Coverage
The document includes two independent claims that cover (i) an analyzing device for analyzing at least one patient characteristic and (ii) a method for analyzing a patient using that device. The independent claim set centers on an inlet-connected docking pod, a multi-layer film substrate that defines a fluid pathway, and an analyzing element located within the substrate (with optional additional fluid pathway features covered in dependent claims).
Film-defined first fluid pathway connected to docking pod inlet
A docking pod having an internal fluid path and an inlet opening is configured to be placed in fluid communication with a patient catheter, and a substrate having a first film layer and at least a second film layer at least partially defines a first fluid pathway extending through the substrate and fluidly connected to the inlet opening of the docking pod.
Analyzing element located within substrate for patient characteristic analysis
An analyzing element located at least partially within the substrate is configured to analyze at least one characteristic of the patient.
Method of connecting docking pod to patient catheter and analyzing
A method comprising providing an analyzing device including a docking pod and a substrate that defines a first fluid pathway connected to the inlet opening, connecting the analyzing device to a patient catheter to fluidly connect the first opening of the docking pod and the patient catheter, and analyzing using the analyzing element located at least partially within the substrate.
Overall, the claims focus on an inlet-connected docking pod paired with a multi-film substrate that defines a fluid pathway for directing patient fluid to an analyzing element located within the substrate, with a method claim covering providing the device, connecting to a patient catheter, and performing the analysis.
Stated Advantages
Minimizing catheter movement and kinking resistance, including reduced kinking.
Reducing infections via improved stabilization and reduced kinking.
Documented Applications
Analyzing a patient by analyzing at least one characteristic of the patient using an analyzing element located within a substrate and connected to a patient catheter via a docking pod.
