MTEC Announces New Funding Opportunity to Advance Autonomous Mechanical Ventilation for Military Medicine

The Medical Technology Enterprise Consortium (MTEC) has released a new funding opportunity aimed at advancing autonomous mechanical ventilation technologies that have the potential to improve patient care in military and resource-constrained environments.

The Autonomous Closed Loop Control Mechanical Ventilation (ACLCMV) Request for Project Proposals (RPP), MTEC-26-02-Ventilator, seeks innovative solutions to reduce technical risk associated with the development of an autonomous ventilation system. Sponsored by the Defense Health Agency (DHA), the effort will focus on designing, developing, and demonstrating the core Physiologic Closed Loop Control (PCLC) algorithms while defining the system's hardware architecture.

This 12-month project is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of autonomous mechanical ventilation and mature the technology to support a future Milestone B Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) program.

MTEC anticipates awarding one Firm Fixed Price (FFP) agreement valued at up to $1.9 million. Offerors are encouraged to propose realistic budgets that align with the technical scope and complexity of their proposed solution.

Proposals are due July 15, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

To support prospective offerors, MTEC hosted a virtual Proposers Conference on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time. During the webinar, MTEC provided an overview of the solicitation process, while representatives from the Defense Health Agency discussed the technical objectives and solution requirements. Participants also had the opportunity to submit questions during a live Q&A session.
