We are proud to announce the upcoming Platelet and Platelet-like Products State of Technology Meeting, hosted by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Radiological and Nuclear Medical Countermeasures Program, in collaboration with the Defense Health Agency, Research and Engineering, Combat Casualty Care Portfolio and MTEC.

Meeting Overview

The Platelet and Platelet-like Products State of Technology Meeting will bring together government, academic, and industry experts to discuss innovations in platelet biology and synthetic hemostatic technologies designed to address urgent needs in trauma, combat casualty care, and disaster response.

Participants will explore emerging technologies such as extracellular vesicles, synthetic nanoparticles, and platelet-like products, along with clinical trial updates and translational research. The meeting will also provide insights into government funding opportunities that support medical countermeasure development and public-private collaboration.

Key Discussion Topics

  • Advancing platelet and platelet-like technologies to meet critical military and civilian medical needs
  • Updates on clinical trials and translational research in platelet-like therapeutics
  • Emerging technologies: extracellular vesicles, synthetic nanoparticles, and bioengineered platelet mimetics
  • Gaps and challenges in research, regulation, and field deployment
  • Government funding and partnership opportunities through BARDA, DHA, and MTEC
  • Building collaboration between federal agencies, academia, and private sector innovators

Why This Meeting Matters

Platelet transfusions play a critical role in trauma and emergency medicine but face logistical and biological challenges, including short shelf life and limited availability in remote or high-risk settings. The development of platelet-like products and synthetic hemostatic agents represents a transformative opportunity to enhance readiness, save lives, and strengthen both military and civilian medical response capabilities.

By convening this meeting, BARDA, DHA, and MTEC are fostering collaboration across disciplines to accelerate the development of innovative solutions that can improve outcomes for patients in combat, disaster, and emergency environments.
