National Biosafety Authority


The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) was established by the Biosafety Act No. 2 of 2009 to exercise general supervision and control over the transfer, handling and use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). It aims to regulate research and commercial activities involving GMOs to ensure safety of human and animal health and environmental protection. The Authority is guided by core values of good governance, professionalism, customer focus, and inclusiveness, with a vision to be a world-class biosafety agency and a mission to ensure safe development, transfer, handling, and use of GMOs.
