Established in 1980, Banco de Sangre de Servicios Mutuos, Inc. is dedicated to collecting, preparing, storing, and distributing blood components, including transfusion services for hospitals across Puerto Rico. Red blood cell units

Packed red blood cell units for transfusion, including standard and leukoreduced products and pediatric aliquots.

Fresh frozen plasma and plasma derivatives

Fresh frozen plasma, pooled plasma, cryoreduced plasma and cryoprecipitate produced and stored for therapeutic and coagulation-support indications.

Platelet products

Apheresis platelets and pooled platelet products, including units treated with pathogen inactivation technologies and bacterial detection prior to release.

Autologous and directed donor units

Units collected for autologous transfusion or collected and reserved for a specific directed recipient.


Services

Distribution of blood components to hospitals

Supply and delivery service providing blood components to hospital transfusion services 365 days a year and 24 hours as needed.

Transfusion laboratory and compatibility testing

Immunohematology services including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screening and identification, DAT, compatibility testing, and reference testing for contracted institutions.

Donor centers and apheresis collection

Operating multiple donor centers offering whole blood and appointment-based apheresis collections (platelets, plasma, double red cells); includes pre-screening and medical evaluation.

Convalescent plasma (CCP) collection

Collection of plasma from recovered individuals meeting documented-infection and antibody testing criteria; appointment-based at a designated center.

Donor registration and appointment management

Collection of donor contact and health information through registration forms and scheduling systems; includes pre-donation COVID-19 screening questions.
