News & Updates

LaborView Fetal Monitor

Convergent Engineering developed advanced signal processing algorithms and intellectual property that enable the FDA-cleared LaborView™ fetal monitoring system. OBMedical licensed the technology and IP and Convergent Engineering provided contract engineering services throughout OBMedical's development process. Before being acquired by Philips Healthcare, OBMedical had sold LaborView monitors into approximately 50 hospitals and had monitored thousands of births.

VentAssist clinical decision support

Designed by Convergent Engineering, FDA cleared VentAssist™ uses machine intelligence to simplify mechanical ventilation by focusing on optimizing oxygenation, ventilation, patient effort, and lung protection. Convergent's patented techniques for calculating plateau pressure and patient work of breathing (neural network) are combined with standard parameters and used in a fuzzy logic system to guide therapy. VentAssist recommends new ventilator settings and provides rationale for the changes. Philips Healthcare has licensed and commercialized VentAssist.

ID-Cap Medication Compliance System

Convergent Engineering created the core technology and IP for the ID-Cap™ medication adherence system being commercialized by etectRx. The ID-Cap ingestible sensor is inserted into a capsule, powered by stomach fluid, and transmits RF signals to an external reader indicating ingestion.

Biomedical Digital Signal Processing

Convergent Engineering specializes in using machine intelligence and signal processing to extract information from biomedical data, especially waveforms. They developed algorithms and patents for nasal alar pulse oximetry, which closely mimics sleep scores from PSG sleep studies. The company xHale Assurance was acquired by Philips Healthcare.
