Abstract
An alignment aid for aligning a sensor patch (20) on a base plate (30) for an ostomy appliance, the alignment aid facilitates easy and precise alignment of the sensor patch on the base plate. The alignment aid comprises a sleeve (10) having a first surface comprising a first sleeve section (40) and a second sleeve section (50), the first sleeve section and the second sleeve section being connected along a connection line (60), said connection line defining a hinge enabling the first sleeve section to pivot and superimpose the second sleeve section. The first sleeve section is configured to secure the proximal side of sensor patch and the second sleeve section is configured to secure the distal side base plate. When the first sleeve section is pivoted to overly the second sleeve section, the sensor patch is transferred to the proximal surface of the base plate.
Core Innovation
An alignment aid for aligning an ostomy sensor with an ostomy appliance is provided that includes a sleeve having a first sleeve section and a second sleeve section connected along a connection line. The connection line defines a hinge adapted to allow the first sleeve section to pivot and overlay the second sleeve section. A release surface is applied to the first sleeve section so that an adhesive proximal side of a sensor patch positioned on the release surface can be removably protected, with a distal side of the sensor patch oriented to face away from the first sleeve section.
The second sleeve section includes an opening formed in the second sleeve section sized to receive an ostomy bag coupling device connected to a distal side of a base plate. The opening is arranged to orient an adhesive proximal side of the base plate upward away from the second sleeve section. When the first sleeve section pivots about the hinge, the distal side of the sensor patch is coupled to the adhesive proximal side of the base plate, and the first sleeve section is positioned as an outermost layer that removably covers the adhesive proximal side of the sensor patch.
The alignment aid addresses incorrect placement leading to adhesive failures and leakage. In the described embodiments, the sensor patch is transferred onto the proximal adhesive surface of the base plate in a correct orientation by pivoting the first sleeve section, and a sleeve section can remain as a release liner until skin application, including coupling of the ostomy bag coupling device through the opening while alignment is maintained.
Claims Coverage
The document contains one independent claim, with dependent claims that refine the independent claim’s structure and coupling, hinge, and opening details. The independent claim centers on a pivotable sleeve alignment aid that removably protects a sensor patch on a release surface and transfers the patch to an upward-facing adhesive proximal side of a base plate via coupling when the sleeve pivots.
Hinged pivotable sleeve for overlay and transfer
A sleeve having a first sleeve section and a second sleeve section connected along a connection line, with the connection line defining a hinge adapted to allow the first sleeve section to pivot and overlay the second sleeve section, wherein pivoting couples a distal side of the sensor patch to the adhesive proximal side of a base plate.
Release surface with removably protected sensor patch adhesive
A release surface applied to the first sleeve section, with an adhesive proximal side of a sensor patch positioned on the release surface and a distal side of the sensor patch oriented to face away from the first sleeve section, where the first sleeve section is positioned as an outermost layer that removably covers the adhesive proximal side of the sensor patch.
Opening sized to receive an ostomy bag coupling device and orient base plate adhesive
An opening formed in the second sleeve section, sized to receive an ostomy bag coupling device connected to a distal side of a base plate and orient an adhesive proximal side of the base plate upward away from the second sleeve section.
Perforated hinge connection line through sleeve thickness
The connection line is a perforated line formed through the thickness of the sleeve.
Specific opening geometries for receiving the ostomy bag coupling device
The opening is one of: a circular through-going hole; or a U-shaped cut-out in a side edge of the second sleeve section.
Release liner covering sensor-patch and base-plate adhesive regions
The first sleeve section is a release liner removably covering the adhesive proximal side of a sensor patch and the adhesive proximal side of the base plate.
Comparative removal force constraint for sleeve removal vs distal side removal
Removing the first sleeve section from the sensor patch requires less force than removing the distal side of the sensor patch from the base plate.
Overall claim coverage is directed to an ostomy sensor alignment aid that uses a hinged, pivotable sleeve with a release surface to removably protect sensor patch adhesive, including an opening that receives an ostomy bag coupling device to orient a base plate adhesive upward, such that pivoting couples the sensor patch distal side to the base plate adhesive while the first sleeve section overlays as an outermost removable layer. Dependent claims further specify hinge structure, opening geometry, release liner coverage extent, and a comparative removal-force relationship.
Stated Advantages
Reduces incorrect placement by providing alignment of the ostomy sensor with the ostomy appliance, addressing adhesive failures and leakage from incorrect placement.
Enables sensor patch transfer onto the adhesive proximal side of the base plate in a correct orientation by pivoting the first sleeve section.
Maintains adhesive protection by positioning the first sleeve section as an outermost layer that removably covers the adhesive proximal side of the sensor patch.
Allows release behavior where a sleeve section can remain as a release liner until skin application.
Provides a comparative removal advantage in which removing the first sleeve section requires less force than removing the distal side of the sensor patch from the base plate.
Documented Applications
Use as an alignment aid for aligning an ostomy sensor with an ostomy appliance, including transferring and coupling a sensor patch to an ostomy appliance base plate while receiving an ostomy bag coupling device through an opening.
Kit-type use case is referenced that includes an alignment aid with a sensor patch and a base plate for aligning an ostomy sensor with an ostomy appliance.
Embodiment operation is referenced for transferring the sensor patch onto a proximal adhesive surface of the base plate in a correct orientation by pivoting, with the potential to leave a sleeve section as a release liner until skin application.
