Abstract
Systems and methods encourage users to rotate injection sites and avoid lipodystrophy. Sleeves and/or lost-tooth gear dials and/or microswitches in or on injection pens or their caps, on vials, and on other portable devices manually adjust an indicator before or after an injection to show a current or next injection site in accordance with a site rotation plan. Injected medicine packaging and related printed indicia encourage site rotation. Optical devices employing optical mouse or projection technology help locate and/or distribute injection sites within a body area. A mobile phone app tracks injections and locations to select next injection site, and can use imaging to locate a target injection site and optionally diagnose lipodystrophic conditions and record them. Tactile and print media educational tools are presented to help users palpate and identify lipos in body areas having injection sites.
Core Innovation
The disclosed invention provides systems and indicators for encouraging injection site rotation to minimize lipodystrophy, including lipohypertrophy. The approach uses injection site indicator elements associated with target injection sites on a body area of a user or patient, and helps space successive injections across a body area covered by an indicator. The system includes adhesive-based injection site indicators and kit-based placement aids that mark target injection sites using coordinated indicia and distribution patterns.
A key aspect of the invention is an adhesive tape injection site indicator removably applied to skin, including a plurality of plies each having a plurality of holes. The holes are arranged in each ply to correspond to a selected injection site distribution pattern, and the corresponding holes in the plies are substantially aligned. Indicia are provided with respect to a different hole on respective plies to represent a target injection site on that ply, while the plies are adhered to each other while worn until the user removes a ply.
The disclosed systems also include an adhesive tape injection site indicator kit and placement aids using a template configured to indicate a distribution pattern. Each indicator in the kit includes multiple plies adhered to each other while worn by the user until the user removes at least one ply. The distribution pattern is arranged such that injections into respective target injection sites are spaced apart in a body area, with spacing constraints used to minimize lipohypertrophy.
Claims Coverage
The document includes two independent claims covering a multi-ply adhesive tape injection site indicator removably applied to skin with aligned target-site holes and indicia, and an adhesive tape injection site indicator kit with multiple removable indicators and a template defining a distribution pattern. Across these claims, the main inventive features are the removable multi-ply adhesive hole pattern with indicia and the template-based kit for marking and placing injection site indicators on a patient.
Adhesive multi-ply injection site indicator with aligned holes and indicia
An adhesive tape injection site indicator removably applied to a skin of a user comprising a plurality of plies each having a plurality of holes, the holes arranged in each ply to correspond to a selected injection site distribution pattern and to respective target injection sites, with corresponding holes substantially aligned; indicia provided with respect to a different hole on respective plies to represent a target injection site on that ply; and the plies adhered to each other while worn until the user removes a ply.
Adhesive injection site indicator kit with removable multi-ply indicators and distribution template
An adhesive tape injection site indicator kit comprising a plurality of indicators configured to be removably applied to respective target injection sites on a skin of a user and each separately removable from its corresponding target injection site, and a template configured to indicate a distribution pattern for the plurality of indicators when affixed to a body area of a patient; wherein each indicator comprises a plurality of plies adhered to each other while worn until the user removes a ply from at least one indicator.
Across the two independent claims, the inventive coverage centers on removably applied adhesive tape indicators that mark target injection sites using a selected distribution pattern and hole-and-ply structure with indicia, and on a kit that uses a template to place multiple removable indicators on a patient’s body area while maintaining multi-ply adherence until a ply is removed.
Stated Advantages
Encourages injection site rotation to minimize lipodystrophy, including lipohypertrophy.
Arranges injections to be spaced apart in a body area covered by the indicator.
Helps minimize lipohypertrophy.
Documented Applications
Marking and rotating injection sites on a patient’s body area using an adhesive tape injection site indicator and kit with a template to indicate a distribution pattern.
Use by a patient or caregiver to track and plan injection site rotation via removable indicators and multi-ply construction.
